One DOJ lawyer involved in the case, Mr. Wan J. Kim, said that "Every American has the right to vote free from racial discrimination. The court's ruling is another victory in the department's vigorous efforts to protect the voting rights of all Americans." Mr. Kim is the assistant attorney general for the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division.

The Court's 104 page opinion held that the Voting Rights Act is a colorblind statute and protects all voters from racial discrimination, regardless of the race of the voter. The Court then ruled that Defendants had an illiegal discriminatory intent to discriminate against white voters.
