Al-Qaeda linked group bomb their ally Iran, what?

TEHRAN, Iran - A bomb explosion in a mosque in southern Iran Saturday killed several people, state television reported.
Although bomb attacks are rare in Iran, the predominantly Shiite Muslim country has faced several ethnic and religious insurgencies that have carried out sporadic, sometimes deadly attacks in recent years. None have amounted to a serious threat to the government.

In February 2007, a car loaded with explosives blew up near a bus carrying members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, killing 11 of them and wounding more than 30 in southeastern Iran. A Sunni militant group that has been blamed for past attacks on Iranian troops claimed responsibility.

Some believe that group, known as Jundallah, is linked to al-Qaida. Jundallah, or God's Brigade, has been waging a low-level insurgency in southeastern Iran.

Besides the violence in the southeast, ethnic Arab Sunni militants have been blamed for bombings in the western city of Ahvaz near the border of Iraq — including blasts in 2006 that killed nine people.

I thought Iran was at least somewhat helping AQI, on some level, did none of you even get the not so subtle hint from McCain and Petraeus

Now the obviously different factions resort to bombing?

I thought Iran and Al Qaeda were conspiring to destroy America...even though Iran helped us in 2001 fight Al Qaeda and the Taliban...I mean, the GOP minions tell us this, it has to be true!

Well, it was Ronald Reagan himself that said - paraphrased, lol - that the middle east is a confusing wretched hive of scum and villainy that boggles the mind and isn't worth messing with

im sure u get it...but my post was heavy sarcasm...Iran and Al Qaeda don't get along at all, ESPECIALLY al-qaeda in iraq which is ruthless beyond words and comprised of mostly iraqis

the idea of AQI and Iran having any sort of common project is beyond ridiculous

What we call a "trouble maker" could easily be called "looking out for their own national interests" by someone who wasn't actively working against those interests (as we as a nation are), no?

They could do the same thing without rattling their saber so much, thus the troublemaker comment. Also they support groups that attack us (much the same way we supported the Muhajideen (sp?) against the Russians).

I'm sure the russians felt we were troublemakers in that and were justified in saying such.

Isn't it possible that they have a common agenda inside Iraq but outside of Iraq they are not friends?

They both might be against the US interests, but if you look at the majority of the violence in Iraq, it was Shia on Sunni (and vice versa) violence.. far more Iraqi's have died as a result of that than have our troops, we've simply put ourselves in the middle of their conflict that dates back a millennia

It's possible, just not true

They do not have the same agenda in Iraq or outside Iraq

The Iranians want a pliable Shia government they can lord over...which is pretty much the path they have set

The Al-Qaeda wants a giant caliphate...the US to leave right now...strict religious law worse than Iran (like the Taliban had) etc etc

Iran doesn't really care if the US sticks around for another 2-5 years, but they don't want us around for 20 years...because then they'd never get to lord over southern Iraq

and in order to reach either of those objectives, the US will have to be removed from Iraq, wouldn't you think?

Iran seems to be doing a pretty good job now, so it remains to be seen if they'll be fine with a normal US drawdown over time...which is almost inevitable, this war has a timestamp of 8 more years IMO could be 8 months depending on the election
