| So, when will Blu-Ray prices start to come down to reasonable prices? $400 for a blu-ray burner Philips SPD7000BD Retail Blu-ray Writer - 2x BD-RRW, 12x DVD±R Burn, 12x DVD±R Read, SATA, Black at TigerDirect.com What's even worse, the cheapest blank blu-rays out there are $15 each, even using the best bargain 5packs, that means for 100 Blu-Rays, it would cost me over $1100 5mm Merax Single Blue DVD Case for Blu-Ray discs I have a 500gb hard drive full of movies/tv shows/etc...I would really really like to store some of it on a disc, but DVDs? It would take 100+ DVDs, and I don't have that kind of time (who does?) Let alone to store them in any reasonable way you have to get the 20-30 cases, so I'd need about 5 of them So, how long until I can just put it all on 10-20 (depending if they're 25/50gb) blu rays? Bonus question: When are they going to make a blu-ray player that can play ripped HD .mkv files off a blu-ray? I remember back in the day, CDs were like $500 bucks for a big bundle, and CD burners cost $400...ofcourse the same thing repeated for DVDs...but I don't remember the timeframe when it went from $400 to $100 and I don't know with technology rapidly advancing will the wait be longer or shorter for blu-rays for the masses? | ||||

| Well since HD-DVD dropped out, it gives Blu-Ray time to hold-off dropping the prices down. I'd give it until 2010 when you see drastic price drops. When more people own widescreen Hi-Def televisions. DVD will be the standard for most likely another 10 years. Anyways, you're better off just getting a PS3, it's cheaper, you can let your kid play video-games with it or you can get a Blu-Ray drive cheap for your computer, but who wants to do that? P.S. LG Blu-ray/HD DVD-ROM & 16X DVDR DVD Burner Black SATA: Compare Prices, View Price History and Read Reviews at NexTag Go there, they have an LG HD-DVD/Blu-Ray combo drive for $170. That's a really good deal. Just check the outlet depots on the internet, they tend to have the best deals for discontinued products. | ||||

| The one posted above is an HD-DVD/Blu-Ray burner that's only $170 and the cheapest discs I could find for storage is $13 optical media | Whatever your digital or optical media needs may be - Shop4Tech The discs are the biggest problem with these drives. You're better off find a cheap alternative on eBay if you need discs. As for an actual drive, just do some google searching and you'll find some really cheap burners made by good companies. | ||||
