What would happen if Hillary compromised on gun control?

It seems she's trying to capitalize on Obama's gun comments lately; So I wonder, as a thought exercise, what would happen if she agreed to just not bring up gun control during her theoretical time as President as a compromise with conservatives?

I doubt this would happen, and I realize that she's very liberal in other senses, but that seems like it would be a compelling message, if you could trust her to keep her word.

Would you as an American re-evaluate your position based on that?

I wouldn't take her at her word. A junkie will say anything to get their next fix. Hillary's word/compromises are not something I would trust.

I think in general if dems could just lay off the gun control rhetoric, they'd have a pretty compelling platform for a lot of people.

for me the economic side of things is really tough to swallow but I know a lot of people wouldn't care as long as they get to keep their guns

If you look at the recently elected Democrats, 5/6 new senators were pro-gun

IIRC, 4/4 of the most likely new senators, all Dems, are all pro-gun

so, I have no idea where you think the Democratic Party is headed, but gun control is mostly a dead issue, except for new ideas that I think fall out of the traditional line of gun laws (ie federal research into ballistic fingerprinting, and then requiring it if a viable tech is discovered)

Seriously, they are being idiots about this and it's really becoming a pain in the ass to keep writing my reps every other day or so

The NRA hates them and gives them nothing but scorn no matter what they do...the Brady coalition constantly welcomes them...what do you expect to do?

It's all lip service, the new Democratic coalition would not pass any seriously restricting gun control laws over what is in place in this country today

I'd think she was lying if she "promised" to do that.

And she'd lose even more support from the party. So the votes it got her from the public would be offset by the votes she'd lose from the superdelegates (IMO).

I think that would really depend on what their short term goals are. Their long term goals could be "take every gun from everyone" and them NOT pursuing that in the next 4-8 years could be seen as just a compromise to help them win this election.

Although, I don't know what demographic that would really be going for. It COULD help her win over Obama, but would it help vs. McCain? If that's the case, there's no reason for her to make that claim to beat another democrat with the party behind her, b/c they get a nominee either way
