I'd really have a good laugh seeing some of these people calling the first 46 year old black man they saw in a suit "boy" and see how that conversation went

oh, and BTW, on context, he just got done calling him a "snake oil salesman" so yeah it wasn't in the nice way

at you guys talking yourself into thinking you can call 46 year old black men "boy" and for it not to be blatantly racist...in any part of the country

Ok, not THAT bad, but seriously. Hasn't anyone ever watched King of the Hill? lol. It REALLY depends on context, of which we have none in this thread.
that's what I was thinking. All those yankees in the media are looking for something to jump on but don't have a clue.

Exactly what I was trying to convey. I agree it was a poor choice of words. I don't care about the guy who said it, in fact if he's GOP or democrat he can rot for all I care, I just think that there may be more to the story than instant racism.

There was this guy, Ron Paul, and many of his long term supporters suggested a vice presidential selection over and over, and he was more than likely to be picked than any other:
The Dream Ticket: Ron Paul and… by Murray Sabrin

Ofcourse, I kept up with the Ron Paul campaign (and every other campaign), I dunno if you did

No, it couldn't be. The use of 'boy' to describe adult black men in a derogatory way is well documented and has a long history

No we don't.

Saying, "Oh boy" or "Good ol boy" is different than going up to a black man and saying, "Boy, ..."

I'm not defending him or the statement, I just think it's a conclusion that may be jumped to prematurely unless you can offer more from his past showing a pattern. All you've offered us is a SINGLE statement with no prior context about this guy.

Really, you of all people should know better. You're not new to the internet or forums.
How many times have you heard anyone in Atlanta talk about another black man by referring to them using the word 'boy' ?

Seriously, go get a video recorder, and walk up to random adult black men and say "Boy, can you tell me how to get to ____" and see what happens

This isn't just some random word or southern quirk like people calling carbonated soft drinks 'pop', 'soda' or 'coke' depending where they live.. this has a long history

I believe there was an instance in the South where a Cop called some College Doctor guy "Boy" during a traffic stop, and he was able to sue or something for discrimination...anyways, I don't know the legality of it, but in my linguistics class that phrase is studied as a known taboo phrase with an essential meaning dating back to slavery.

But, maybe he did use it because Obama is younger by 4 years....
