When the only reasoning he had to promote the idea of racism (not his article claimed racism) was personal prejudice against southern Republicans, I think it was fairly clear how this would end up.

Exactly. He said it to belittle Obama and most likely to allude to the fact that he's a freshman senator who has accomplished very little politically.

As I said before, I'm glad people are finally starting to open their eyes and realize that the PC loving liberals who SCREAM racism at the drop of a hat are essentially crying wolf. They don't take into account context, whether they're joking or not, they just scream racism, have them stripped of their jobs and sent into exile.

You'd think after the Ferarro incident they'd open their eyes and realize they've taken it too far, but I guess if it's the tool they use to accomplish their political objective they're not above using it against themselves either.

Davis is less experienced than Obama, who at least is on the foreign relations committee...Davis was a consultant who entered Congress later than Obama did...and there is only a 4 year old age difference

AND davis specifically apologized for saying boy, but not for the other insults...and other people here on this forum, who I think have more experience with african americans, that "boy" is a racist remark from one white adult to another black adult

I've lived in the South my entire life. I went to the high school with the highest percentage of blacks in my city. My whole family comes from the South. I have lots of black friends and coworkers. I also have lots of white friends that are racists.

My anecdotal evidence trumps any other person's anecdotal evidence.

To borrow a summary-Historically, in countries such as the U.S. and South Africa, "boy" was used as a disparaging racist insult towards non-white adult males (especially of African descent), recalling their subservient status even after the 20th century legal emancipation (from slavery, evolved to race segregation, viz. Apartheid) and alleged infantility, and many still consider it offensive in that context to this day.


Bottom line: there are still people alive who experienced segregation in the US, they were called boy so often, by those whites in authority, not because of their age, but because they were lived a child like existance underneath white segregation

you can still find these people today, and they will tell you how horrible an experience it was to be subjected to those RACIST attacks, and I certainly, in philadelphia, have found blacks who through their family experienced segregation, have also been called boy by whites in a way they considered a racial attack

Despite my rather youthful appearance, i have never been called "boy" by PA troopers or any other white person outside my family, yet black students I've known in undergrad or grad school both told me of where such figures did such, and they clearly knew it as racism from the moment the words were uttered, both as what their family had experienced and told them about and the unnecessary usage of the word

Well I guess his other point would be that he didn't apologize for calling him a snake-oil salesmen. I've read many media reports that said he did. He did however focus his apology on his "that boy" comment because that's what the blogosphere was up in arms about. But he did mention the character attacks he made against him. He didn't just apologize for one because it was racist and usual, there is absolutely no evidence to the contrary.
