That's what's funny and unfunny, 99% of my life is a complete mystery, over the years I've let out:

A) Where I went to college
B) That I graduated and am in graduate school
C) That I have a fiancee in medical school

really short facts, there are several stay at home dads or ones that did something like that here...i expressed my interest in that area once

it's something isn't it?

I'm not a stay at home dad, I go to school, see point B, and shame has nothing to do with it, it's uncomfortable about one question leading to another until you have no private life

and i'd use a nicer word than yours of "arrogant" but realize that ive not only seen people go to prison over internet logs, but ive seen people lose promotions because someone found completely offtopic remarks on the poor victims myspace page and made the case to their boss that the person was "weird"...be careful the internet can really bite you in the ass...im not ashamed of anything either, but that doesn't mean my future boss or someone else of importance might cut and paste one tiny sliver of something and use it to unfairly judge me...and it might just ruin that perfect job you eventually line up...once your name is stained, it's stained, you can try and rebuff it later on but the marks never go away completely no matter how much someone twisted your word and how 100% right you were

Just a couple things I feel like I want to note in response to this^^^

1.) If you aren't ashamed about the life choice you have made (i.e. being a stay-at-home dad), then what people say to you shouldn't bother you. Such a serious commitment shouldn't be taken likely, and (I don't know if this is true or not regarding your life) if you can't handle criticism of the choices you have made, perhaps you need to reevaluate whether they're the right choices for you. People are always going to criticize you, and you must be able to handle it or you're going to be miserable. Just a word to the wise It's not a choice I would make, but it's your life, not mine.

2.) People know a lot about me, my life, my friends, etc., more so on OT (particularly in the hockey thread because a lot of my irl friends post there also), but I'm also not ashamed about anything I have ever done. There's nothing about my life I'm sorry for, so if people want to use anything to criticize me, that's their problem. It's not going to bother me. Perhaps you should consider that regarding your own life. If you're scared about people making fun of your life choices on the internet....well, you know.

Just the viewpoint of an overly intellectual, arrogant 20-year old. Take it for what it's worth.

if I got a job offer in NYC/DC for 80-120k a year, i'd be working 80 hours a week, and id never see her because she'd be doing her residency in philly in which she is stuck due to connections with doctors/hospitals in this area...which we both agreed is simply unacceptable to barely see each other for years

now, she could get some sort of transfer, but it would cripple her career, which ofcourse is an option, but

if I am not tied down to NYC/DC...or even philly...we could always pivot off her job offering...one of her friends that is in the same medical field she is wild about just got a job in Seattle for 300k a year plus a payment plan for her near 350k in student loan debt...now, if I spent years working my way up to 150k-200k in DC/NYC, how can she ask me to sacrifice not only all my graduate work, but 80 hour work shifts for years on end to get where I wanted to be, just so she can go from 160k to 300k?

However, if I am making 60k in Philly doing some local politics, with a marble ceiling on my salary, and working 40 hours right off the bat, I can split to anywhere she gets an offer in a second, and start a family once we settle down, or we always figured kids don't get solid lifetime memories until they are 4 so we have until then to...to find a region/city with the best offer

with the rapidily expanding medical field and shortage of doctors, we could end up moving several times

Would I love to be working as a CIA analyst, chief of staff to a Senator or influential lobbyist? Of course, it's always been my dream, but time to face reality, the former, especially after 2002, doesn't have the same appeal, and the latter is a lot of luck or insane amount of work I don't think I'd enjoy the path...

On the other hand, her career future requires no luck, she loves every aspect of it, and simply regardless of what I do she'll be making more money

So, do I sacrifice a career she loves, makes more money than I'll ever do, and subject myself down a path that I know at one point I'll have to end prematurely (all roads lead to DC, and she has no medical plans to ever go there)

Or do I sacrifice my career, and pivot off her offers with her, make more money, get to make sure my kids are brought up without ever dealing with some 3rd party stranger care?

It's the overwhelmingly logical thing to do, and actually to be stubborn about male pride would only hurt her...and for what?
hey man, no need to justify it to me... if it works for you, that's what counts. you've expressed frustration with libertarian ideas before, well now witness the part that benefits you directly - what you do with your life is really none of my business and i wish you well with it as long as it hurts no one else

Your self-restraint is admirable.

My daughter was molested by her own father. The fucker isn't even going to get five years for it. In fact, he's still walking around a free man. "They" haven't decided to label him as a predator yet.

There is no cure for pedophilia. It cannot be cured. Execute them and be done with it. Kill them all.

If any of you think these guys are getting life in prison for this crime, think again. I'd google it but I'm tired. There is a story of a man (and pedphiles do this frequently online) who searched myspace and dating sites for women who have children. He meets a lady and they get close. They meet in real life. He rapes and kills her six year old. He doesn't get any time for it. He got probation.

How can we possibly live in a just society where we'd be executing people who haven't actually psychologically/emotionally/whatever injured someone?

That's just american-legalized murder
You are fucking stupid. Would you like to meet my "not emotionally damaged" daughter?

Each SVP at Atascadero State Hospital was costing over $140,000.00 a year of state funding. This doesn't include frivalous lawsuits. A bullet is much cheaper. sorry...
