| So you still think government is there to help? Government originally grew out of organized theft. For thousands of years humans subsisted as nomadic tribes of hunter/gatherers and wanderers, camping where food was plentiful. When the game animals were exhausted and the local vegetation was picked over they moved on. It was not until the advent of agriculture that people became tied to the land. As the practice of farming and animal husbandry developed, communities sprung up. People had learned to provide a living by working the land and raising livestock. Rather than work, some people found it easier to organize into armed gangs and take what they wanted by force. These gangs of raiders learned that rather than wiping out a community and taking everything, it was easier just to show up after harvest time and take a portion of the crops in exchange for not killing everyone and burning the village. This worked so well and these roving armies developed a circuit of farms and villages that they would plunder periodically. This new way of taking things proved so lucrative that other competing armies sprung up and the armies would often fight each other over territories. This was the beginning of organized warfare. The home bases of the more successful armies eventually became the great city-states like Troy, Athens and Rome that conquered the known world through force. Routine raids were replaced with tribute or taxes. This feudal system continued with kings and nobility lording over the peasantry until very recently in human history. Early forms of democracy emerged in Greece and Rome became a republic in its early years but this did not extend beyond the city walls. Not until the American Revolution did the concept of individual liberty for the masses exist. For the first time in human history government was limited to protecting lives, liberty and property from both domestic and foreign threats. But not empowered to meddle in the other peaceable affairs of the people. Now that mankind had had a taste of freedom, the feudal system all but disappeared in less than a century and a half, a mere blink of the eye in human history. So how do those who crave power over others operate in the post feudal world? Through politics, they promise various benefits in the name of helping “the people”. They exploit the baser human emotions of class envy, greed or misguided sense of justice for reparations for past wrongs to further the notion that government can somehow make everyone equal. The socialism and communism that developed in the last century in the name of “the people” fostered some of the most brutal dictatorships in the history of the world. This tyranny of the masses has resulted in the murder of somewhere around one hundred million people. All with the best of intentions of making everyone equal. This system of government has demonstrability failed everywhere it has been tried yet Americans are still willing to give up their liberties in exchange for a little more “help” from Washington. Being that government really does not produce anything, this help only comes in the form of money that was taken by threat of force from their fellow citizens at the cost of an ever increasingly powerful centralized state. All while thinking that government is really just there to help people. | ||||

| To say Athens and Troy evolved from armed gangs of theives... America did not invent the "concept" of personal liberty for the masses, and in fact restricted it to a small minority upon taking power this is like cut and paste from a 1950s civics book:
the feudal system disappeared because of the industrial revolution, not because of "freedom" the slums of london of the 1800s were just as much a prison as the feudal lands of london past to say every government is trying to make everyone equal is overgeneralization to the extreme lots of organizations have developed over the past hundred years or so, including corporations, that have led to the deaths of millions...how many people did socialist-leaning sweden and switzerland kill? As opposed to other great nations of the 20th century? The government does not produce anything? Do I even need to crank out the list like I have several times of government benefits you enjoy from the moment you wake up until you go to sleep...but what has Bear Stearns done for your recently? Why do me and Dos have to sit here and make up these lists, you two honestly looked through this post and thought "everything looks great" I understand why Dos didn't give a bigger reply, I only gave a brief summary of how far this post is seemingly inaccurate and im exhausted and don't feel like expanding it to really make my point stronger | ||||

| Not really. It doesn't really deserve an intelligent response. It's historically innacurate, based on false assumptions and comes to incorrect conclusions. I'm not really going to waste any more of my time on this anarchist garbage. Yea yea, government is evil. we all know that everyone would rather live in hunter gatherer societies free to do as we wish, hunting the land, blah blah blah. | ||||

| Of course it's not the same. One starts with "Humans originally existed..." and the other starts with "Government originally grew..." They can't be the same, two of the first three words are different. But much of the message is the same. And the reasoning and logic....those are near identical. I don't understand why, for some reason, people are going to think "cities exist because of beer" sounds silly, but they'll think "Rather than work, some people found it easier to organize into armed gangs and take what they wanted by force," doesn't. | ||||
