| Defense of Rev. Wright by Catholic Priest against Fox News
Wow, one of the most powerful and effective defenses of Rev. Wright I've ever seen, and he completely 0wns Fox News and Bill O'Rielly, who only aired a few seconds of the 6 minutes interview...it's really some of the best political and religious commentary i've heard in a long time Catholic priests are great at so much of this stuff, evangelicals and their "born again" stuff can cause people to put on the earplugs quickly, but Catholic Priests have been at the forefront of many social issues, it's too bad about the sex scandals | |||||||

| Fox news is the most offensive, ridiculous channel I've ever seen. How do you Yanks tolerate such shit? I can't think of a string of profanities long enough to describe my opinion of their shite programming. | ||||

| Indeed, the priests (primarily the educational orders--Jesuits, Franciscans, and Christian Brothers) are never afraid to discuss and debate social and political issues. It's refreshing, in a way, to see those fully committed to religion speak so frankly and openly. Then again, I went to a Jesuit high school, and it might be a stretch to say most of the priests are "fully committed to their religion." I had a religion teacher who was pro-choice and basically agnostic | ||||

This isn't free press, this is oppression, if the government did this stuff or if they was done in court there would be outcries of injustice. The press is not a private person, they wield tremendous power. They can destroy a persons life simply because they don't like him personally - its not surprising then that some people might be hesitant to speak out freely for fear of a witch hunt no matter how sound their reasoning or how much they love this country, the rabid media dog acts as a very good vehicle for censorship. If that is not tyranny than I don't know what is in this country.

| I haven't kept up with any of what's going on so if you're asking me if there's been discussion my answer is "I have no idea." I watched that video looking for a "hit job" and didn't see it. | ||||

| I just saw the second video, (everyone should watch both) what an outrageous hit piece, in the 6+ minute interview about rev. wright, who was actually coming to visit, he made a half-a-second remark about LF being a good person in general Which isn't something new, he is the priest for of an overwhelmingly urban black congregation, and inter-faith anti-poverty issues constantly arrise in urban areas...so they've always met to help try and advance poor blacks in his area, and I'm sure in person LF told him his more publicized comments were not what he said or he didn't mean that way, like LF always does... It's funny that BillO above all people does not understand Catholicism, this isn't like some protestant sects where when you screwup you have to be "re-baptized" or "find jesus again", rather you simply talk to a catholic priest and if you privately regret things, that's more than enough, end of the issue There was nothing about LF being "endorsed" by the priest, and ofcourse he is a man of god, LF's life revolves around religion, and what kind of catholics does this guy bring, they sounded like the catholics from the ultra-right catholic league, which ofcourse said mel gibson didn't have even a hint of anti-semiticism in him after "passion of the christ", yet went on his little tirade against the jews just a little while after...so much for ultra-right catholics judge of character... Now you have these seemingly very conservative Catholics display immense displeasure at defending a PRIEST who talked 99% of wright, like other priests, and dropped one line about liking LF who has done a lot of work for the Priest's community But the bottom line is that this piece was 99% about Rev Wright, BillO says a lot of Catholic priests are behind Rev. Wright, yet he's slamming this guy? Why? Because he's an urban priest with a high record of being liberal (a common trait with urban or highly educated priests) | ||||

Biased reporting on policies whether they're right or wrong. I'm completely against reforming our media, it's not the Governments job and FOX News has the right to do reporting however they see fit. Check out a Chris Wallace video, as he is bashing the FOX & Friends crew for criticizing Obama about the "typical white person" comment. Not everyone is a lunatic on FOX News, plus O'Reilly can get away with this shit because he's there highest news-rated program, with a tremendous following.

| The BBC has what many consider to be public media, and other european countries are even stronger...and many point to the higher quality media that comes out of these countries as compared to tabloid style news in the US (BBC documentaries are unrivaled for their objectivity) | ||||

| ^But you still can't talk shit about the Queen of England. BBC is an extremely good news organization but I don't have trust in our government giving us fair and accurate news, but that's just me. | ||||

| Actually upon recalling a recent gem from CNN, I'm reconsidering my judgement of Fox news as the worst news station. During their coverage of the Pope's visit (and not during an opinion show mind you) they said that "The pope even talked about distinctly american subjects, such as freedom and justice". I was absolutely floored. I thought about writing a letter of some sort, but then realized that as a non-American I had better check with the government to see that everything was on the up and up and that I had the necessary letter writing permits. Damn this country and our lack of freedom and justice. I get all worked up even thinking of it. Are all the big news stations this terrible? | ||||

| They have the right to do whatever they want. I uphold the Constitution in the highest standard, there is a freedom of press. Which means they can report whatever they want, lying in the media is nothing new and I think you're giving too much credit to FOX that they can single-handedly swing an election. They play to a crowd that's already going to vote GOP. Look at the New York Times and the McCain smear story they tried to run, people reported bullshit on them. Plenty report bullshit on FOX. I don't really see your perspective here. Last edited by kombayn; 04-22-2008 at 05:21 AM. | ||||
