McCain is only leading Obama in in 1 of the 8 national polls

...and in that one, only by a statistically insignificant +1

RealClearPolitics - Election 2008 - General Election: McCain vs. Obama

Keep in mind, this is McCain's peak, he's delivered his "biography" speeches/message across the country, he's firmly the GOP nominee, Obama and Clinton have both been ripped down with their fighting, with both supporters telling other people (and one would have to say, pollsters) that they'll vote for McCain if asked about the other nominee

McCain should have his big lead now...but he doesn't, he's actually losing to Obama after Obama screwed up OH/PA, had the wright controversy (which is playing in commercials in NC), and the week long coverage of his "bitter" comments

The Dems are getting blasted on every side, he's an already well known politician with high favorables, he still makes the news when he delivers a major speech and always gets to get on the talk shows as well

Very bad sign for McCain's chances

You were a poll JUNKIE and you constantly used them to tell me how Kerry was going to win. I don't care how right you were, you were dead wrong on the bigger picture.

I don't put stock in polls. Especially when Obama does so much better in them than he does in the actual voting booth. Wonder why that is

You should put stock in polls, just not this far out IMO.. too much can and will happen in the next few months in the run up to the convention, and afterward there's still plenty of time for scandal and whatnot

Yeah...I didn't mean they were total crap, but it's a snapshot in time, yadda yadda yadda, and they're only so accurate, they're just give you a general idea. When they're in their margin of error, all bets are off.

people are so quick to point out that polls about obama and hillary aren't worth a damn, but then find one that talks about mccain and (and dem) and "TEH POLLS SPEEKS TEH TROOF!!!"

Also, obama's name is in the paper every day. He's on the news every night. McCain is sitting back INTENTIONALLY staying out of the spotlight.

When he decides to start campaigning *then* we can talk about polling numbers.

I don't run and make a new post every time a poll comes out, but I'll use them if it suits my argument within a thread.

I usually use them like you did in post 2..... to point out that polls are guesses and don't really mean shit.

I don't know that it's fair to call them a guess

when they're right they talk about their methodology and blah blah.

when they're wrong they talk about their math and why it didn't work.

...............if that's not a guess I don't know what is.

Yeah, but I mean it's based on data, it's an educated guess, it's not like me or you giving an opinion based on feeling
