and we assume that the Union and the Confederacy existed to this day with the same political ideals expressed then, and knowing what the future held for the Union...

which would you rather live in?

I'd rather live in the Confederacy.

However, if the South would have won, I doubt we'd still be separate nations today. Because of economic reasons and several other reasons, I believe that, given a few years, eventually the two nations would have reunited.

And the threat of secession would still be a valid checkpoint on federal power. It'd be great. We'd have a much better government than we do now.

There weren't too many computers around back then so I doubt I'd have my current job. Before I decide if I'd rather live in the N or S I'd like to know what color I'd be and what I'd be doing.

I think he means if it were still today and that shit happened... so it's not like slavery would still exist or anything.

In this fully imaginary scenario, they never reunite. The ideals of the Confederacy never change because we don't know their future. The Union is modern.

Slavery would cease to exist because of economic reasons. If the South would have won, the South would have gotten rid of slavery at the turn of the century, just like all of Europe did.

I saw one of those pseudo-documentaries about this very subject. It was entitled, "The Confederate States of America."

btw, didn't the south get its military equipment from factories in the north?
