If we inundated the page with ads (we don't) and also showed them for members (again, we don't) I'm sure we could be making much more than the measly numbers we see now

Even cutting the ad unit + picture at the top we had to the leaderboard has cut our earnings way down, but we've been trying to attract new people more than we care about ad revenue..

It really makes you question if they did this to block lurkers when they instituted the fee on all users and they haven't lost any "lurkers". I don't begrudge Fazle's right to make money off OT or to run it as haphazardly as he wishes throwing the subscription money away on his own private data center. I just think they should be more up front about it. I checked the front desk a while ago. People who were promised free accounts waited over a month for Fazle to take the time out of his day to make a click of their account settings.

Everyone who was getting the free accounts had posted in the thread, in series. So basically all an admin (or smod if given permissions) had to do was open their profile, click the admin user cp link, check a box and click save. 4 clicks, 2 extra page loads. Perhaps that takes 10 seconds per person. If they had to do 100 users it would have taken all of 15 minutes... tops. I just don't get what takes a month to do that. The site used to be about the community and such. We can see what it's about now..
