None of this makes any sense. Wright even warned Obama that he might have to distance himself from him. Obama defended him, vaguely condemned the "offensive" speech, now all of a sudden he pulls a 180 for no good reason?

If in fact Wright was taking a jab at Obama and enjoyed the spotlight he's had this week, get ready for a LOT more. He's basically going to have the stage from now until November whenever he wants it.

Does that make any sense to you at all? Do you have a family, friends, significant other...seriously...do I need to make up another example you can relate to since you seem to be having problems identifying with an uncle
I am African American and my Wife is from Ghana in West Africa. We dont tolerate racism from either sides of the family. If my family ever said anything negative concerning my wife or my daughter, I would without a doubt confront them on it and take action immediately. She has no problem doing the same.

In my situation, I have seen racism from both sides both white and black. My wife grew up in a bording school so she was not subject to racism at this level. She dealt with it more from the rich kid economic status type stuff.

I think there was some form of resentment on Rev. Wright's part towards Obama. It looked like everyone else came to his rescue but Obama really did not protect him so it was a chance to set the record.

I'm curious to see if it's going to further divide his base and whether or not THIS actually works to distance himself from Wright. Otherwise, I can see Wright as an anchor around his neck.

One thing is for sure, the association has been made and he's set up to have his character and judgment come under further scrutiny.

Very true, and I also feel like Rev. Wright is not done talking. He now has the spot light and will continue to use it to his advantage. Unfortunately for Obama, this is just more proof of bad judgement in the eyes of his critics!

How can you suggest the "180" he pulled was for "no good reason"?

What Wright did at the NPC and the NAACP was certainly a good reason.

What did he say that was any different from what was said in the sound bytes from his sermons? In the span of 24 hours Obama did a complete 180 on Wright.

I've seen on several shows that many people who attended his sermons didn't see this side of him

Ever have a friend who was a constant screw up, but they were there for you during a time in your life and so you're loyal to them. Then one day they do something that could ruin your life and you have a "screw them" attitude? That's really how I perceive this.

I am not going to be voting for Obama based on his relationship with the local pastor of the most prominent church in the district he was a community organizer in. It's not like Obama did anything illegal with the man. Wright is a first rate jackass, but it isn't like Obama did anything illegal or exceptionally wrong. If we look at his competitor's record we can see all sorts of real crooked stuff done by the person and not by a friend.

There sure was no shortage of people cheering him on at his speaking engagements though.

You can rationalize it to yourself all you want, but I don't think the general population is going to buy into it. They're going to take it at face value and not delve into the "why" of the situation.

A lot of what I argue isn't my own personal feelings on the matter, it's more of a reflection of how I think voters are going to look at things in some of the key states.

Sure, but does attending mean agreeing?

I dunno, if Obama can answer the questions about what he heard him say and whether or not he was in attendance during any of the remarks that are going to outrage a large part of America.. I think they'll take it at face value that the Rev's political beliefs aren't Obama's

BTW....what side of him? You didn't really answer my question as to what he said/did that forced Obama to distance himself from him.

OH MY GOD! REV. WRIGHT IS THE DEVIL! AH!!!

Can we seriously move past this guy? Who gives a shit about him? Does he affect your life in any way? And giving Obama a bunch of crap for this knucklehead? No one has had a friend in their life where that friend said some really moronic things before? I know people that are outrageous and I wouldn't agree with their claims. Now Obama is forced to break ties with the man because of politics? Stupid, really stupid.

So if Rev. Wright is the big-slam on Obama along with the slumlord he made deals with... I can still top McCain's first flaw in his whole presidential campaign, HE WANTS TO STAY IN IRAQ! First and foremost that is the most important issue on the table and the GOP would love for the Democrats not to focus on the War. It's all tied to our falling dollar, inflation rising, gas/food rising in prices, budget deficit, possible recession for this horrible war, losing respect with other world leaders who think we've become a war-mongering country... And the list goes on and on. So these attacks on Obama still don't have the weight of McCain's Pro-War policy. Never will get my vote, ever.

Have you ever spent any time outside of California/big cities?

The blue collar crowd he's having trouble connecting with has been looking for a reason NOT to vote for him, now Wright is going to be that reason, and his competition is going to bring it up at every stop.

As far as Iraq, you're not going to have a successful run if that's what the campaign is based on, should have figured that one out in '04.

Yes, I've been outside big cities. I've lived in 3 other countries, 5 American States, and visited a lot of places for travel. It's still a stupid reason not to vote for someone because of what SOMEONE ELSE said, especially someone acting as foolish as Rev. Wright. Also, in 2004 we were not having the economic crisis we're in now, which is to be blamed on the Iraq War and believe me people's opinions have changed over that war 4 years later. Obama just has to make the simple conclusion that the Iraq War has caused this economic mess, it's quite simple. I just think Rev. Wright is a complete non-issue, to listen to some crazy former pastor and say that Obama "100% agrees" with that man is foolish. If you want to support McCain that's fine, you're only going to get burned when the Rev. Wright tactics don't work.
