| Cheney: Congress has no authority over vice-president
So what do the legal eagles around here think about this? I remember when this came up awhile back, Cheney claimed to be part of neither the legislative or executive branch exclusively, so of course, neither had any authority over him I kinda feel like this is such an important issue, because it goes to the core of what this country is about.. do we have co-equal branches of government, can we hold the executive branch accountable for their actions in this day and age, or are they beyond reproach because both major parties feel like impeachment proceedings are too politically damaging? Also, because moving forward, whoever the President is, will have these powers unless they give them up voluntarily.. which I don't really see happening. One of the things I'd like to do if I get a chance to ask a question of Clinton or Obama is whether the first day in office they'll issue an executive order rescinding the powers Bush has attempted to give himself through signing statements, executive orders, etc.. | ||||

| I think the claim is laughable. He is trying to bring up a schoolyard tactic of " oh I said no returns! you can't punch me now, haha". It should be fairly obvious to anyone that the vice president is under the same umbrella that the president is, the executive branch. Sure he has duties that involve working with other branches but that does not mean he is under thier legal umbrella. | ||||
