| Ok to ask if hiring is over A applied for a job recently at the same time as my friend. He got an offer over a week ago. I haven't heard back yet. But they told me I would hear back in May. I am getting anxious waiting. I was going to email them to see if their selection period was over or not. Is that an appropriate email or should I just wait? | ||||

| yeah email them. i dont mean to take the wind out of your sails, but if you had gotten the job you would have heard by now. they usually let the person know within a day if they want them to come back in for another interview or for good.

| Where I work, it takes MONTHS to complete the interview/hiring process. I do government funded work, so it's worse than most places, but all the same, that happens. In nbigger's shoes, I wouldn't have stopped looking for a job. If a place tells you they'll get back to you, fine, but if you STOP looking then you're putting all your eggs in one basket. Don't stop til you sign an offer. | ||||

| It just occurred to me that my friend interviewed a couple weeks earlier than me and the position requires a background check (honeywell). So I am marginally less worried now, if they have trouble getting a hold of my contacts, things probably take longer. | ||||

| Good-luck with that, if you haven't heard in another week I would call back, state your name and ask how the process is going. It at least shows you're interested in the job to the employer and you really want the job. I've never heard of calling-back horror stories. | ||||

| I wouldn't ask if hiring is over. I'd contact the interviewer and thank them for the chance to interview, and let them know you'd be glad to buy them a coffee if they wanted to discuss any other questions with you. Well, I guess it depends what kind of position we're talking about, but in management consulting, I'd just do my best to engage in relationship building with them. Do your best to build a relationship with that interviewer (preferably you already did this, so you can continue it) and you will do well. | ||||
