The reason I took a contrarian view is because I believe in a balance, just like the majority ought to be checked from violating the rights of the minority so too must a minority be checked from abusing the rights of the majority. If we fall into the trap of completely hammering on one but not the other, we risk swinging the pendulum of power too far to one side risking tyranny. There must be checks on both.
This is also the reason I defend government as much as I do on this board, not because I believe government has all the answer to all our problems, clearly they do not and many times their cures are worse than the disease. However, enlarging the problems of government (and in some cases exaggerating) so much as to make it seem that the free market holds the all the answers is dangerous and unwise as it would be to believe it for government. Such thinking deludes us to the danger that lurks in the shadows of giving too much power and too little accountability to one side versus another.
