Are tornadoes common in NC?

I didn't think that area of the country usually got them.

Storm relative velocities and gate to gate shear dont look overly impressive on the NOAA site, my shit isn't pulling in the velocities so I can't get any close up data to check shear markers...could be a tornado on the ground but probably radar indicated at this point.

NWS saying doppler indicated...so it hasn't been confirmed which is good. They place warnings based on doppler radar with a fair amount of safety built in so just make sure you take cover if it ispassing over your area.

Yeah NC gets them every year just not as frequently as the plains states and the midwest.

crazy shit though, very close to here, never seen the wind that bad, even during that last big hurricane that came through

The East Coast has tornadoes and hurricanes, the West Coast gets the Earthquakes... I'll take the one bad earthquake every now and again over that.

We get nothing in the north east. Tornados are common in the midwest. Not so common around the south east and virtually unheard of in the northeast.
We had a minor twister whip through here maybe a couple of years ago. It knocked over some signs and uprooted a handful of small trees. That's about it. hurricanes typically run out of steam before they reach the mason dixon line and become just heavy rain. The only real weather problem we deal with in the north east is snow. And in NJ we don't even get much of that. I guess flooding in low lying areas is sometimes a problem, but that happens all over the country. We certainly don't get any earthquakes that cause any real damage. Up in the north east, people actually get excited for storms because we normally don't get much in the way of extreme weather.

What do you consider south east? Tornadoes are very common from I 40 to the south even in the eastern states of georgia and the carolinas

I dunno, I guess I just never hear about them.. or the news from "Tornado Alley" tends to drown it out.
