CNN - Generals on the Ground Considering "Last Ditch" Effort

In an effort to reclaim Baghdad from death squads, armed militias, and Al-Qaeda led insurgents; Generals are considering a plan to create 28 choke points around the city -- with a massive network of connected "ditches" creating 28 US checkpoints inbetween the gaps.

The CNN correspondent they embedded with a certain platoon states: "They inform me over the last few months that these troops in Baghdad have conducted over 28,000 house-raids, but have only uncovered over a few dozen weapons caches."

Pitiful, and indeed there are escalating numbers of tortured and killed humans every day -- 100's of lives taken in a sectarian civil war. Many times I have heard it said that if the battle in Baghdad is lost, the entire war is lost.

I can't honestly believe they're considering trenches around Baghdad.. I mean, really.. can't we leave trench warfare back in WWI where it belongs?

I honestly dont know what it's supposed to do in any case.. the whole problem with the strategy thus far is that we have not had enough boots on the ground to curb the problem in every place at once. It's a giant real life game of whackamole.
