If these people feel so bad why don't they feed the homeless in their own homes.

Yes you say there are places set up to help homeless but unfortunately those places can be difficult to get assistance at. I don't see anything wrong with setting up a 'feed the people' in a park thats open to the public and payed for by tax payers. Most homeless people used to have jobs and payed taxes too. Actually a park is the perfect place to feed homeless people, and many outreach programs do set things up in parks. I know im my own city they serve meals to homeless in one of the tiny park / square in the middle of downtown. I dont want to judge the people complaining, but I why would you complain about homeless people being fed in a park? Please enlighten me? My guess is its not a 'pretty site', and they think it may deter people from visiting the park.

There's a few around where I live on the same corners every day, and it's pretty often I see someone pass out some coffee when it's cold, or a bag of food from one of the fast food places down the street ![]() I don't think it's a safe idea to bring a homeless stranger into your house to have them sit down to eat a meal.. but if you feel bad and want to give them a bite to eat, getting a combo from Wendy's or whatever and handing the bag out of the window is certainly a lot less risky...

| so how do they get to the park? they alrdy live there? ![]() and why is a public park easier to deliver assistance to? for instance a group like 'food not bombs' feeds homeless people in parks sometimes. they are a pretty poor group themselves, no govt funding that i know of, mostly just donations from kind people/ businesses. i think they feed people at the park because its centrally located, possibly less intimidating, and how about the simple fact 'its a nice place for people to visit and eat some food?' so because they may or may not have used to pay taxes they should be able to permantely turn a public park into their kitchen and living space, because as you say once they are in the park they will have no where else to go. i think your being silly here, and im not even gonna waste my time responding why is a public park the perfect place i dont think its 'thee' perfect place, i think the perfect place to feed homeless would be a in a cafeteria at the foot of the dormatory type building where the homeless people can stay until they get back on their feet. do you like to picnic? where would you like to picnic? the park maybe? so do you think the homeless people will enjoy their picnic any less then people with homes? homeless people are a nuisance to many people, thats all, they see them and they dont wanna bother thinking about them or helping them in anyway. i saw an interesting show once about how homeless people actually cost the government more money being homeless then they do if they set them up in a apartment and attempt to help get them back on their feet. they said the average 'chronically' homeless person costs so much in medical bills and other types of assistance, it would be cheaper to help them with shelter and other assistance, and the program was working great in what ever city that was. | ||||

| i couldnt find a link to that show, but i did a quick google and found this: Houston's Clear Thinkers: The power-law theory of homelessness A Reno, Nevada homeless man nicknamed "Million Dollar Murray," who -- when all his health care and substance-abuse treatment costs were calculated for the ten years that he had been on the streets -- probably ran up a medical bill as large as anyone in the state of Nevada. As one sage Reno cop observed: “It cost us one million dollars not to do something about Murray.” | ||||
