excellent.
Way to misrepresent what I actually said

Here's the rest of what I said.
"IMO it's my responsibility to do it. BUT I do not believe the govt should be taking my money to give to people........even if they'd do the exact same thing with it."
From the beginning I've said I believe it's my responsibility to give. What I don't believe is in someone else deciding where it goes.

I'm against people being FORCED to give. Period.
Next time try not to make a point by lying about what I said.

After hearing about this as well, I agree.

There is no point in us sending food and money to a country when the people who need it can't get it. I'm with Ardent, let the Red Cross, WHO, and UNICEF handle this one.

So would you be in favor of government donations to those organizations for this specific purpose then?

Hell no! Anyone who studies what happens with "foreign aid" would know that it is a complete waste of our money. Government is the worst institution to use to help others. Let U.S. citizens keep their money and their will be plenty of aid, provided through private charities, and the money will be used much more wisely. Only an uneducated fool would think the government would do a good job at helping others.

Yes

A conditional yes....
But the condition is this: We make sure the aid goes directly to the people and not to the military.
If there is no way to do this, than I say no.

Yeah, this regime is known for torturing its people with waterboarding and other techniques, if we can't ensure they don't misuse funds / food / other aid, we shouldn't be sending it

I'm sure we could fly some planes over and drop it directly to the people, but that might cause clashes with their military forces, and is probably not the best idea

"Conditional" funding from governments = perceived encroachment on sovereignty

Again, this is why individuals sending aid through non-governmental groups is fine, but governments doing it is a bad idea.
