Cool. I just looked it up for Washington and discovered a liberty I didn't even know I had. You're a great American, 7960!

I thought the thiomersal-autism link was claimed for babies. Not school age kids. Did I hear the story wrong?

but I did choose not to vaccinate them against chicken pox. instead, when one friend's kid got them we had a play date and ours and all our friends' kids' got them at the same time.

I'm not opposed to vaccines. I'm opposed to stupid vaccines.

I wasn't vaccinated. We haven't made the decision for Olivia yet, even though we're supposed to in the pretty near future

edit- I did end up getting a tetanus shot. two or three times. Usually because I owned myself on a rusty nail, a chisel, a nail, a nail, etc

the claim runs the gamut ..... that it's only for babies and that other kids have an intolerance but it takes a few shots for it to build up enough of a concentration in their system.

btw, I think the "link" between the two is crap but I'm not a doctor so what do I know?

I didn't even realize they had a vaccine for chicken pox until like a month or two ago when some thread on here was talking about it.. that's just crazy

If I ever have kids I doubt I'll get them vaccinated for that either, nothing like your whole body itching like crazy for a week to build character!

By the way, did your kids know what you were doing with the chicken pox stuff before you went over there? Or was it a complete surprise when they woke up itching?

I have been considering a chicken pox vaccine actually. I hope I don't become autistic

I never had it, and I'm told that it can be extremely dangerous for adults, so I need to get the vaccine before we let olivia play at a chicken pox party

Some vaccines can be dangerous, but most of the ones they give to children are safe, most of the time.

I'm not in favour forced vaccination - if someone does nto want to vaccinate thie children, then they can take that risk IMO.

Just because something can happen does not mean it is likely

Good to know about the vaccine, I can always take my future children to my doctor and get a professional opinion. I don't know if I ever had a vaccination but I did already catch the chicken pox when I was 8 years old. So I'm good. Though I've seen very-very-rare cases of people getting it a 2nd time, that must suck.

that is how we did it when I was a kid. A cousin had it so we all played together in the summer when it wouldn't interrupt school, no vaccines required.

I don't have kids, but we need to be careful what vaccines we give to kids. I could understand why parents are against vaccines, in fact I could see myself fighting a school district against them in the near future.

would you be willing to subject your children to something that is safe "most of the time", fuck no I wouldn't.

Honestly? Yes. My kid(s) won't grow up in a padded room, but when it comes to the vaccines I kinda am afraid she's already got enough problems as it is and I'm afraid to potentially add to them.

Olivia has been tough in that way (less so with the vaccines and moreso with physical therapy and such) because they just don't write books about kids with missing left arms/shoulders and stomachs that aren't arranged the normal way. There is no manual and she is clearly a special case in many ways so we can't just do what everyone does.
