I'm sure it's selectively edited, but from my experiences in the state it's not too far off, and a lot of the country is like this, not just WV.

I think Obama is surrounded by a LOT of people who the republicans are going to be able to attack him on.

really? I honestly had no idea. The only thing I knew of WV was that it was a rural kinda redneck state. Atleast that was the impression I got from the way people who lived in Virgina talked about WV.

We should be so happy our election system is even recognizing such idiocy.

It goes along with the same thing that is told to young people, that if they don't research the candidates and have an informed opinion, they shouldn't vote.

I think the same should be true for this sect of America that the media and the Parties claim is a deciding factor in this country.

That last lady reminded me of Dana Carvey's impression of "the Church Lady", where he impersonates her saying "I just don't think it's right. I don't know WHAT the topic is, but I just don't think it's right!"

I don't understand the logic of this at all - he lost in a PRIMARY, it means zero months from now in the general. Clinton has said she is more qualified because she has won the big states. Just because she won Penn, Ohio and TX in a primary does not mean she will win it in the general right? Then it follows that just because Obama lost in those states does not mean he will lose it in the General.

And as Scrum said, McCain was also trounced in WV, does that mean he too is unelectable?

I don't know that these people are going to be willing to vote for Obama in the fall,
At 5 electoral votes and ranking 38th on the list of states in order of most to least electoral votes, I'd say WV isn't a priority.

I don't think you can just write off WV either, every Democrat who's won the White House in I don't know how many years has carried WV.. it's a very blue collar union state, and every Democrat has to be able to carry that demographic, not just in WV.. but in other states with similar demographics too, like Ohio

Because if you look at the reasons they didn't vote for Obama, it's trouble because it wasn't entirely about being pro-Hillary, it was about buying into stuff like "Obama is a secret muslim" ...etc..

It's not so much that WV itself is important, but it's more of a look into the minds of rural america in terms of the general election. Most of the other states have large population cities filled with the core Obama voters that have been able to offset the rural voters. When the general election rolls around you can't just rely on those big cities to win the election for you.

1916. But in 2000 and 2004 WV went for bush.

These "they can't win if they don't carry......" arguments are crap for the smaller states. WV is 5 votes. NH is 4 votes. People put way too much importance on these "nobody's won who didn't win the NH primary since (fill in date)!" shitty scenarios.

Like I said though, it's less about WV specifically and more about the demographic that WV represents, mainly white, blue collar, union type workers.

They don't exist JUST in WV, they're in other key states that Democrats NEED to win, like Ohio for example.

but like has been argued up to now, obama losing to hillary doesn't mean anything when it comes to one of them going against mccain.

The political world changes on a whim, what people believe now and what they believe by the general can change in an instant. It's happened before

Obama leads McCain in November match: Reuters poll - Yahoo! News

He is now leading MCCain by 8 points.

Democrat Barack Obama has opened an 8-point national lead on Republican John McCain as the U.S. presidential rivals turn their focus to a general election race, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.
Once he is officially chosen as the nominee the party will probably align behind him. I think this is already pointing in that direction. After all, most polls on strictly Dem vs GOP show that, by quite a wide margin, most people want a democrat in the white house come next election.

Also:

Key Clinton Constituencies Moving Toward Obama

Gallup Poll Daily tracking has documented a surge in Democratic voters' support for Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton in recent days, swelling from a four percentage-point lead for Obama during the first part of May to a record 16-point lead for him in polling from May 16-18.
