Breaking: Edwards endorses Obama

completely unexpected!!1!1131

I'm not sure why he waited as long as he did..

I think it's pretty obvious that, with the exception of health care plans, Edwards was much more in line with Obama in terms of the way they ran their campaigns, positions on issues like lobbyist money, etc..

The vast majority of Edwards supporters joined the Obamarama train once it was obvious he had no shot, so obviously I'm not shocked at all

Even if he had done it before the NC primary it wouldn't have mattered much, he's not very popular here and doesn't have the same kind of clout as an Ed Rendell or someone..

What do you guys think about him as the VP?

I don't think it'd be a good move really, Edwards would bring even less to the ticket than Hillary in terms of being able to bring out a vote or deliver a state, he can't deliver NC because of the lack of popularity / clout here.. and other than that, he doesn't really bring much.

That, and one of the bigger criticisms of Obama has been his lack of experience, putting another 1 term Senator in the ticket with no foreign policy experience is just giving the Republicans another easy line of attack

You really think that? I don't think Edwards has any clout with them, he's seen as a rich lawyer by a lot of the moderately conservative folks who've been voting for Hillary..

He's not popular at all in NC

He's not popular at all in NC

i think he has credibility among some 'small town people' that obama is seeking approval from.

Where are you getting that from though?

His popularity ratings in NC were horrible, and if he couldn't get them over to his side here.. where else is he going to get them from?

i'm not 'getting that' from anywhere... it's just what i think based on how edwards did in states like IA and SC for example. IMO he definitely has followers who are looking to see who his endorsement goes to in those states since he did pretty well in what was obviously a 2 person race.

Here's my Obama VP Top 5...

1.) Bill Richardson (Gov. and Foreign Policy experience, and brings the Hispanic vote. His weak debate skills won't hurt him because Veep's don't decide presidents usually.)
2.) Gov. Tom Kaine (He has the swing state of Virginia. He endorsed Obama from the beginning. I would rather see Mark Warner but he's running for Senate which brings me too...)
3.) Sen. Jim Webb (New to the game, good debate skills, excellent foreign policy and brings that Reagan Democrat feel.)
4.) Gen. Wesley Clark (I really like the guy, he's a humble old senior citizen with a lot of foreign policy credentials and he's well liked with-in the Democrats.)
5.) Christine Todd Whitman (I know she's a member of the GOP and former cabinet member of the Bush Administration, but she resigned because of her heavy dissatisfaction with the GOP and Bush. A lot of rumors going around that Obama will ask her to run with him, I think it'd be a huge mistake.)

McCain's VP Top 5 Choices
1.) Mark Sanford (Quality conservative record, a Gov. and well liked with-in his party. Would secure the Carolina's and could campaign hard for McCain.)
2.) Joe Lieberman (It's a death-wish for McCain, but with his age and knocking on death's door a serious issue. I think McCain will want someone who will uphold his foreign policy and moderate ways in the White House. But trust me, he does this, nomination is kissed good-bye. I don't think it's a bad choice but all the conservatives do.)
3.) Mike Huckabee (A semi-death-wish, he'll alienate the tax-cutting conservatives but he'll be rejoiced by the evangelical base and pretty much secure the south for himself. This is the most likely of the choices.)
4.) Tom Pawlenty (He's the 2nd most likely to get the nomination, a Gov. young and well-liked. I just don't think McCain will choose him.)
5.) Bobby Jindal (I really like him, seems to be an honest man trying to do good in the world. He's already getting that Obama buzz, I think Jindal has already waved off the VP nomination. Expect Bobby Jindal to run in 2012 if Obama wins the election.)

It ain't over till the fat lady sings, well she is warming up in the wings. Like it or not Obama will be the democratic nominee for president. Anything less and the fallout will be so terrible the election will be handed to McCain.
This primary may be talked about for years, but it's over. All that's left now is just a question of how messy it's going to end.
That's my 2 cents.

I don't like Edwards as a VP, I view him as a con man. I'd be upset if Obama chose him.

Now that he's essentially wrapped up the nomination he is going to start getting all the endorsements from all the unions. That's because he's a Democrat and really doesn't have anything to do with his positions or following.

Maybe Reagan. He was taking mad-shits on the Democrats during his 8 years and rightfully so... Until that whole Iran/CIA Contra scandal, the idiot.
