Matthews has actually taken a lot of heat over the last year for several "sexist" incidents.. so I wouldn't be so sure about that.

I remember reading on several of the liberal blogs about email and call campaigns to complain about his various remarks.

Jossip had an article talking about how much Matthews, Olbermann, and Gregory dislike each other, including Olbermann slamming his fist on his desk when Gregory was running too long. He was on the other set during primary coverage, and he slammed his fist so hard that Pat Buchanan ever turned around.

Reports from insiders are saying that both Russert and Matthews are furious with Olbermann for being so ultra left wing, biased and activist. He says they put up with it because Olbermann threatens to walk out and their ratings depened on him.
mediabistro.com: TVNewser

Then last night at around 8pm Olbermann made a joke at Hillary's expense during MSNBC election coverage and Tom Brokaw gave him a dirty look and called him out on it saying he's being unfair.
TOM BROKAW: So all those experiences have formed him, and he does come from what I think is a kind of post-60s family background. His father came from Africa. His mother came from the Great Plains. He lived around the world. And as we get ready for the 21st century, those are very strong credentials. On the John McCain side, 5 1/2 years in the Hanoi Hilton, from a long, distinguished military family. His life has been about service to his country. He was a wild child, by his own admission, as well, and then got into the United States Senate, married Cindy, and six months ago, we were saying he had no shot at this nomination, and won, too. So we have two remarkable stories taking shape here tonight, it seems to me.

KEITH OLBERMANN: And a third one trying to shoe-horn her way into those, the coverage of the first two.

BROKAW: Well, I think that's unfair, Keith. I don't think she shoe-horned her way in. When you look at the states that she won and the popular vote that she piled up, and the number of delegates that she has on her side, she's got real bargaining power in all of this. You'll remember it was on that New Hampshire primary night when people were saying she can't survive the next 24 hours after just Iowa, and here we are at the end of the calendar. And she looks very strong in one of these states tonight, and will have some real bargaining power, and has people, which I think we ought not to overlook, there are a lot of poeple who voted for her who might have been denied that if she'd dropped out -- blue-collar workers and especially women, and it's a delicate time for Barack Obama as he now deals with her because he does not want to disenfranchise them come the fall.

OLBERMANN: And the question raised here was the timing of the vice presidential talk, but we'll have more time to talk about that in the next two hours.

BROKAW: We will indeed.

OLBERMANN: Thank you, Tom.

Olbermann threatens to walk out again unless he gets Tim Russert's job?

TIM Russert's body wasn't even cold in the ground before MSNBC anchors Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann started jockeying for his job, sources claim.

Matthews was heard loudly discussing what seemed to be his strategy for landing Russert's "Meet the Press" show at Wednesday's memorial reception for the NBC Washington bureau chief at the Kennedy Center in DC. After Brian Williams, Carl Bernstein, David Gergen, Barbara Walters and NBC brass eulogized their friend, Matthews huddled with an unidentified "agent type" and seemed to be plotting.

According to our spy, "Chris, with his loud voice, was going over a pitch for Tim's job. He was saying, 'You know, Tim's thing was this, and my thing is that.' It was unbelievably tacky."

But Matthews told Page Six that the man he was with was real-estate developer Bob Monahan and that they were talking about a speech Matthews will give soon to a group of mayors in Gettysburg, Pa.

"We started fighting about it. He wanted me to talk about block grants. I want to give my general political speech," Matthews said. "I swear to God that's what happened."

Matthews denies he wants to host "Meet the Press": "I love what I do. My Sunday show is a perfect fit for me. I hope they find a perfect fit for 'Meet the Press.' "

Meanwhile, Matthews' MSNBC cable cohort Olbermann, who was also at the memorial, is "threatening to quit if he isn't installed as Russert's replacement," another insider said. "I know, it sounds ludicrous, but, then, Keith Olbermann is ludicrous."

A rep for MSNBC said, "All of this is utterly untrue."

Russert himself wanted Chuck Todd, the NBC News political director he hired, to succeed him, said one source, who added that MSNBC hosts don't stand a chance of landing "Meet the Press." The insider said, "They're cable. They're far too partisan. They have no gravitas. If gravitas is eight letters, they're about seven letters short."

I really hope they can bring Brokaw out of "retirement" and let him be the caretaker of Meet the Press until Chuck Todd is ready for it.

Matthews would be a better fit for it than Olbermann, but neither one of them should be anywhere near the set of a show as sacred and unbiased as Meet the Press.

Yeah, I'm hoping Tom Brokaw takes over Meet the Press until they can groom someone into the job. If Olbermann or Matthews became the new host it would be a disaster.

Not much of a fan of Brokaw all that much either, although he would be better than Olbermann or Matthews. I think they should bring in a new person. I really don't think there's anyone in our media right now at the level of Russert and people who have been in the game for a while are corrupted by the old standards.

Keith talked about it on Countdown tonight which I happened to see as I was waking up (don't ask, fucked up schedule) .. he said the rumors weren't true, and he wasn't qualified for Russert's job.

I believe him.

It's not surprising to me that the NY Post (another Rupert Murdoch production) would do all it can to slander MSNBC and Keith Olbermann though.

Olberman is a weasel who runs to the bosses and does things behind closed doors, I wouldn't put it past him.

Plus, quitting jobs is what he does best.

Interesting take on Olbermann
KEITH OLBERMANN
Host, MSNBC's Countdown With Keith Olbermann
In a recent profile of Olbermann in the New Yorker, Peter Boyle recalls that he could be so "overbearing" that Suzy Kolber, a former colleague of his at ESPN, would sometimes "lock herself in the bathroom and cry." It's a sentiment that people who know him today echo. "I love his politics, and think he's really filled a void for the left that was missing on TV, but the guy is just a total asshole," says a former colleague of the frequent Page Six target. "He's just a full-blown, red-in-the-face screamer." Another former MSNBC staffer notes that Olbermann refused to communicate with underlings face to face when he worked out of the network's Secaucus operation, instead insisting that anyone who wished to get in touch with him leave him a note in a special mailbox. "His disregard for those beneath him is almost comical," the staffer continues. "I remember he had an assistant back then named Brian whom he made go out and buy presents for other people. Brian did, with his own money, and of course Keith never reimbursed him." Says an NBC producer who has worked with him: "He is, to put it kindly, brusque."

Wonder if these two regret their blatant and partisan demeanors now that Russert's job is available. Their careers now ruined as far as objectivity is concerned. People know.
