Which gaming console should I get?

So I'm finally in the market for a console (my birthday is in June), and I'm not sure which I really want.

I'm thinking a Wii because I'll be able to play a lot of the old Nintendo (and Sega, hooray Sonic) games that I loved back in the day.. but I've also heard that it's not really fun unless you have people next to you to play with, and I don't usually have all that many people over.. is there online play?

Another reason I'm thinking about the Wii is a game coming out in September, called "The Force Unleashed", it's a Star Wars game set inbetween episodes III and IV, and with the Wii you get to control the lightsaber through the Wiimote, and whatnot.. which sounds awesome

If you click on the SpikeTV exclusives, they show a bit of the gameplay with the Wii

But I've heard there's a real lack of games right now, and that once you get bored of Tennis and replaying through old games, it's kinda not fun

I don't know much about the PS3 or the Xbox360, but of the two, the Blu-ray stuff seems like it'd give the PS3 an advantage

What do you guys have / what do you recommend? I know Stylerod bought a Wii awhile back and said he really liked it

From what I understand, Xbox has like 10 times as many games as the PS3 has. the Wii is more family friendly, you won't be able to play Call of Duty 4 or Grand Theft Auto on the Wii.

Does that mean those (types of) games will never be out there for the Wii? Or just that they aren't right now

I don't have any consoles, but if I were to get one I'd probably get the Wii just cause it looks like it would be fun to play with my GF.

Between the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, I don't really care about the number of games cause I wouldn't have that many anyway. The Blue Ray player would be nice. However, most everyone has the 360 nowadays so it's probably better for online play if you want to play with your friends. At least it would be for me. So I'd be kinda torn.

The wii is a lot of fun, but all I ever use it for is GH3.

The lightsaber game sounds awesome. I hope it doesn't suffer from clunky motion detection, though. That would blow.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl on the Wii is fantastic and i think you should buy a Wii if only to play that game, also it's the cheapest.

And, from the videos of it (check the link, the videos are AWESOME), it looks like it's going to be pretty amazing.

Does that come with the $250 retail price or only with the bundles?

I'm really not wanting to pay more than the $250 for whatever the 'base' thing is.. if I can actually find one

Although some of my friends have said they wished they had just bought the bundle, since they've spent more on those same accessories separately than they would have if they had just gotten the bundle to begin with.

I don't have any of them but i know people who do, and back when gamecube ps2 and xbox came out I was a pretty big video game nerd. I was considering buying a new system, but probably won't unless I can find a cheap used one.

PS3 is a better value overall with the blu-ray player and all, but that only really helps you if you have a TV that can play them and are going to buy a lot of Blu- Ray discs. Game-wise its the weakest, not many great games on there that are exclusive. Its also the most exspensice

Xbox360 has the best online play, lotsa people fun and easy to use. Has more adult type games Halo, Call of Duty, GTA 4, shit like that. This is the one I was leaning towards getting.

Wii is fun, the smash brothers game is cool, and you get all the newest versions of the old nintendo games (mario, zelda, metriod etc.) The new controler is really fun, but i get the feeling the novelty might wear off after awhile. Its also the cheapest.

It sounds like your more interested in games than starting a serious entertainment system, so I'd go with either the Xbox or Wii. You just have to ask yourself what games and what features you'd rather have.

I have much love for my Wii, just wish I had more time to play it.

I played Mario Kart for the Wii this past weekend at my brother's house and it was incredible. I never thought they'd be able to top the original, but they certainly did.

And while you can't play Call of Duty 4 on the Wii, Call of Duty 3 was released at the same time the console was, and Call of Duty 5 is coming out for Wii late this year.

Then since I was a Nintendo head when I was a kid, I love being able to download and play those old games of my childhood on the Wii.

The console is a blast.

I think I'm going to wind up getting the Wii. The Star Wars game and the ability to play older games is too cool to pass up I think.

I'm much more of a PC gamer, but I think the Wii is the most appealing

I don't think you will be unhappy with the Wii. I have a 360 now as well because I wanted Rock Band. Rock Band is coming out for Wii next month I think.

But online play on the Wii is great. If you already have wireless in your house you are ready to go. No need to run cables like the 360.

I have to admit, the games on my 360 look AMAZING on my HD 42" Plasma in 1080i. But the Wii looks pretty good even at 460p.

I can't stand FPS's on consoles so I don't ever play them. But my kids love Halo3 for 360. They are looking forward to the Star Wars game and Indy Jones Lego for Wii.

Zelda is a great single player game for Wii. Mario Cart is fantastic single player or online. Smash Brothers is a blast as well. All of the games are fun on single player, but with more people or online they are even better.
