Definitely the wrong way to handle the situation, but if you look at attacks on Muslims etc after 9/11, or retaliation against Muslim's in that European country where someone was murdered.. you'll find we're not that much better.

Whose "we're"?

When was the last time Christians rioted in the streets after a Muslim leader called Christians names? When was the last time Christians rioted after something bad was was made about Jesus?

Muslims are welcome in the United States and most of Europe because those are Christian countries and don't have a problem with Muslims or Budists or Jews practicing their religion in their countries. I think in the recent past we can safely say that people murdering in the name of Christianity has been a lot less than people murdering in the name of Islam.

I'm not trying to compare the situations directly

My point is that in the heat of the moment, people do stupid things.

They get riled up easier for sure, and over things we think are stupid or that should just be water under the bridge, but when you look at the large (and I think it's probably larger than anyone wants to admit) number of people who've said stupid things like "Nuke the middle east", or the rampant racism against Arabs after 9/11.. we (as a nation) are not so far removed from this type of stuff.

Are we better? Sure we are, but it doesn't mean we should think we're so much better that these types of problems are absent from our society entirely.

Ok, I understand what you mean. I know, the whole "Nuke the middle east" is so fucking stupid. I love listening to Howard Stern. But he gets on tangents about Bush and the middle east. He hates Bush and how Bush is handling Iraq but then in the same sentence he will say "We just need to nuke the Middle East." It's like, you are a political retard, just shut the fuck up about politics and let's get the chicks to ride the sybian.

I don't think muslims do say anything bad about jesus because he is a recognised prophet in Islam...no?

I think you need to define a "lot less" "recent" and "in name"

not a lot of anti Islamic flame burning goes on but then again Islam doesn't have air superiority....

just how many people have we killed by military intervention.... or by intervention

so i don't think you can "safely say" anything.. are we killing anybody in Christianity's name? is this a religious conflict?

Yeah, Jesus is a prophet in Islam. They'd be disrespecting their own religion to talk bad about him.

I don't think it's a religious conflict honestly, but I think we need to be careful how we act and what level of respect we have for Islamic culture, or it could very easily turn into one from certain perspectives that it hasn't yet (ie: moderates).

People should understand that they still tell stories of the crusades there like it just happened, they haven't forgotten them, and religion plays such an important role in their lives, that a "Christian nation" like ours going into their country, removing their leaders, and then failing to have the proper respect for cultural sensitivities could easily be viewed as a renewed crusade of sorts.

Especially when you consider how important Christianity is to our current leaders.

im not saying nonmuslims dont do stupid things, youre missing the point

if someone says that youre culture is violent, you do not respond with violence, its pretty simple. Thousands of americans protested the war in Iraq because they dissaproved of our governments choice, but they didnt go burning down the republican headquarters or beheading republican citizens.

Maybe that's the problem, the culture, and the culture doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Islam. I mean, when KKK Chrisitans used to lynch black people, I'd say that was more a problem with red neck culture than Christianity, although the KKK were all Christians and killed in the name of Christianity.

yes thats true.. but oddly the US airforce and army did blow up a lot of people in Iraq?

so

"if someone says that youre culture is violent, you do not respond with violence, its pretty simple"

has this transgression occurred somewhere along the line for the USA at some different level?

the KKK killed in the name of christianity? I thought they killed in the name of the white people

but the KKK is another good example of a culture of extreme violence
