| Well then I apologize. I thought you two were in the same boat. I must have misunderstood.

I walked around with this in the back of my mind, until this week, when I took her to her 18 month appointment. I asked my Pediatrician about her walking. She watched her toddle back and forth to a chair, falling over, like Bambi, and she said she was doing just fine, and as long as she progresses, not to worry. I exhaled and said aloud how some of my Mother Friends had reacted to her not walking and my Pediatrician replied:
"These days, there is a rush for testing, physical therapy, or medication for everything. And sometimes, people just rush to judgement." It's not that their hearts aren't in the right place, but there is alot of worry for medicine to make a child perfect. Because of this, it is no longer OK for a child to be a quiet kid, they should talk more. If they talk too much, then they are hyper. If they can't sit still, they need to hold still. If they don't move, then they need to move. We live in a world that highly points out these social norms from a very early age. And it disregards that normal comes in all shapes, rates, and milestones. I think what Ardent is pointing out is valid. Some parents to rush to judgement. BUT, that being said, I do not believe that was the case in this instance. The teacher is an asshole for doing that to that little boy. It's like the old adage about being nice to the bully in class. Except it is more about being nice to the kid who might have a development issue or is under the care of professionals. If my kid was in that teacher's class, I would be even more pissed off that she is trying to teach the kids in her class that the way to deal with outcasts, is to essentially vote them off the island.
