| I have first hand experience with what thewise has said. Throughout college, 80% displayed no political leanings since I'm an engineer... a handful showed libertarian leanings and they were all economic professors (in some fashion), the rest showed thick liberal leanings some even admitted socialist. My macro-econ prof tried to be politically ambivalent, but she was obviously a communist (from Russia no less). Any class I had that was liberal-artsy had THICK liberal leanings. The majority of majors deal a LOT more in liberal arts than engineers. Even if they have only most of those professors push liberal thought (whereas I had all), that would have to have an effect on "educated" minds. | ||||

| I thought Obama was now getting almost all the African American vote. I don't think that is an honest poll. Last edited by Rouger2; 05-30-2008 at 05:07 PM. | ||||

You were too afraid to speak up and disagree with the professor when the class was having debates? And so was everyone else? You never once had a thought that contradicted the position of the professor in a paper, or disagreed with some of the assigned reading? I find that hard to believe.

People without opinions on subjects are clean slates and can easily be affected. If you have an opinion on a subject, it takes a lot more than a liberal-leaning professor stating their opinions to change your mind.

| You didn't answer my questions though. I don't buy into this narrative that most people don't already have opinions on stuff. | ||||

| On politics, I disagree with you. If we've both read a book or seen a movie, we probably have opinions on it whereas someone who hasn't read/watched it would not. People who don't care about politics, who come from families who don't discuss politics, who don't read newspapers, etc... are not going to have opinions on politics. There might be one or two issues they have somewhat of an opinion on, but if a prof comes in and starts talking about how it's unfair that the rich get richer while people who struggle continue to struggle, that will affect someone who has never cared about it before. ESPECIALLY when it comes from a professor who is supposed to be learned. | ||||
