SUSAN SARANDON, who appeared in three films last year and won kudos for her TV movie "Bernard and Doris," is still not a contented soul. She says if John McCain gets elected, she will move to Italy or Canada. She adds, "It's a critical time, but I have faith in the American people."

Why are they so self-absorbed that they think we'd give a shit?

And why is Alec Baldwin still here?

I can't say I really blame her though, Bush's 8 years have been disastrous for our country.. another 4 under McCain continuing his policies is a really scary thought.. not just for his warmongering ways, but privacy and civil liberties, etc..

Yeah, she should move to Canada where you can go to jail or get fined if you say you hate someone or disagree with someones lifestyle. Now that I do a freedom of speech search for Italy it seems people have gone to jail there for their words as well.

I love how Libs always think the grass is greener on the other side.

No country is perfect, some countries do certain things better than we do, and we do certain things better than they do. But I think everyone should be worried about what the country would look like after another 4 years of Bush, which is all McCain represents..

What in the world are you imagining it looking like??? I doubt our freedom of speech would be limited like it is in Canada and Italy. Liberals were the ones that took that away in those countries.

& the political hue of ones oppressor matters because?

Its not as if Bush/McCain were/are truely republican/conservative except by name, ..., or so it seems.

I've no problem with 'celeb' using their fame to promote their political views, ..., make for more interesting reading than the usual guff in star mags & the like

Mind you the media rarely press them on their views which is quite lame, ..., I blame the readers for putting up with it.

Ultimately its the mags advertisers & distributors that run shy from the truely contentious or 'difficult' issues, ..., just as well really, for we all depend upon the economic growth resulting from ringtone promotion & the like

When's the last time (if ever) that anyone rushed out to watch a Sarandon move (or Baldwin)?

I find it interesting how Hollywood (which is primarily Left centered as most everyone knows) profits from all the war movies they produce. 131 movies and shows since the beginning of the Iraq war: Keyword: Iraq War...
Hey...they need the stories!

Sarandon was in one such movie recently: In the Valley of Elah (2007)

Couldn't she had just said "no?"

In the Valley of Elah was a bust. Her role was very minor. She was definitely type casted for her political views and got basically no screen time other than answering the phone when her husband called and a few scenes where she got to cry. The movie only made $7 million. And then Tom Cruise released Lions for Lambs not much later, but after Elah the US was just sick of it and it basically made nothing in the box office. Lions for Lambs only made $15 million despite having a $35 million film budget.

So I agree, people don't really care for this kind of stuff, nor do they give two squirts what they think. It's more about the media. They were outgoing with their political views in the past so the media likes to get the story when they interview them. I doubt Surandon brought up the election, she was asked and gave her soundbyte answer. This really is the media making it an issue than anything else.

I guess freedom of speech doesn't apply to people you don't agree with?

McCain and Bush are only similar insofar as their positions on foreign policy (and gay marriage and other petty bullshit, I suppose). Other than that, the two are not very similar, by American standards, when it comes to political positions. McCain is about as "left wing" of a Republican as you're going to get.

Uh, the fact that he's done a 180 on a number of major positions he's held for the last decade or so in an obviously politically motivated move to have another shot at the nomination?

I can respect someone who shifts their position for good reasons, he's doing it to pander.. showing he has no integrity.

We can't afford another 4 years of Bush, and that's all McCain represents
