| Guitar Hero Last Christmas, my daughter got me a Playstation 2 and Guitar Hero 2, presumably because I have played guitar for years, and because I like some video games. I tried Guitar Hero, and I got pretty good at it. But the problem for me is that playing Guitar Hero is about as close to playing a real guitar as riding a bicycle is close to flying an airplane. I know the game is meant to be easy so that anyone can do it, and there are several different skill levels. But that doesn't excuse it from being more like the real thing. It just seems like, with the technology available, they could make something that better simulates the experience of playing a guitar.

| I disagree somewhat. I found playing on Guitar Hero to be similar to playing bar chords, and I figure someone who was really good at GH would have some of the skills and dexterity to actually play rhythm guitar. Changing your hand position at just the right time is what it's all about in both GH and real rhythm guitar. I hear GH4 will have multiple instruments much like Rock Band, including a more detailed drum set. Like BIll Maher pointed out, why not just buy real instruments, especially if the controls get closer and closer to the real thing? | ||||

| GH is nothing like playing bar chords. You don't move your hand very much. You don't just hit the buttons with your index finger (which WOULD make it like bar chords). The buttons don't line up to specific notes even (in any song, one button may end up being a few different real notes which means you can't really anticipate what is coming ahead in the game like you can in real music). GH is just a game with a controller that looks like a plastic guitar with no strings. However, there is another. Guitar Rising: Guitar Rising | Official Site You get a REAL guitar and plug it into the game. You learn REAL guitar. Not released yet. | ||||

| I started playing guitar when I was 12, unfortunately had to stop when I was 16.. I fell and broke my wrist while going down a half pipe at a skate park They had to break my wrist back into position (which fucking sucked), and I've never had the range of motion with my wrist that I did pre-break, and I seem to get fatigued easier I've recently been thinking about picking it up again. I remember I used to REALLY want this green Les Paul that they were selling at Guitar Center, it was green wood grain.. but I can't seem to find one for sale anywhere | ||||

And sorry about your wrist (that does suck). In the past, I have had all kinds of guitars, from cheap to expensive. Since I don't play as much as I used to, I just keep around a 1965 Harmony electric that I refinished and rewired.

On a real guitar, I can play all the chords, including bar chords, but I never took the time to learn lead.

| My boss bitches about GH all the time. He's a very good guitar player and his daughter wants to play GH rather than learn how to play guitar. I've never played a real guitar and even i can tell they're nothing alike, and being able to play a real guitar would actually be a detriment to playing the game. From what I've heard, Rock Band can help someone learn to play the drums, though. | ||||

| Yeah, but they also feel sturdy. I really wish I could find one that looked like that for sale somewhere at a decent price, I haven't had much luck though. | ||||
