| Your call for more self control should have nothing to do with the law, which is what is being discussed. To demand that guys have more self control and back it up with a law is, in fact, legislating your morality (which I may personally agree with, but that doesn't mean it's right to force it on others). | ||||

| If you had a 13 y/o daughter who misrepresented her age and got arrested, I don't think you would be looking at the guy as the victim. Would you? (I think either yes or no is a fair answer, I'm curious as to what you would think) What if you weren't sure whether your daughter misrepresented her age or not. Would you want that doubt to be his get out of jail free card? | ||||

I'm not saying I'd like the guy after he had sex with my daughter. But I couldn't demand that he go to jail when he did his due diligence and she appeared to be of age. edit: by the way, I say this as a guy with a 1 year old daughter, so I do understand the love that parents have for their kids. | ||||

| I've been lurking this thread for some time now and couldn't understand how in the world anyone could disagree with motivez here and believe this person belongs in jail. But after reading some recent posts I have to say, Stylerod and Phantom have presented their case well. i see where they are coming from and I'm kinda torn about this. The girl was only thirteen. Those pictures are too blurry and too far away to tell what she really looks like. Just because she has boobs and a fat ass doesn't mean she looks or even behaves like a 19 year old. Thirteen is middle school... that's young. If the guy was really fooled, that sucks. Really it does, but what if he got her pregnant? Then what? Not everyone believes in abortion. He would have knocked up a minor. That would be a horrible thing. I feel for the guy. In the telling of the story within this article he was honestly duked and he had the balls to humble himself before the father and inform him. He did the right thing and I hate to see someone who did the right thing get punished. As such, I think his punishment is very harsh. I personally think he should have gotten probation at the most. The father on the other hand should be investigated by child protective services for allowing his daughter out late, at bars, and basically to roam the streets looking for sex. He should be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and HE should have to hire a lawyer and defend himself in criminal court this time. His punishment should be more severe. I didn't recall reading anything about the mother either. But she should also be investigated depending on her role in the upbringing of this child. | ||||

| hello mr and mrs smith. i met your daughter here at a bar the other night, she told me she's 18 and she looks 18 but i just wanted to make sure she's not actually a 13 year old lying to me about her age before i have a one-night-stand with her. | ||||

| I agree with whoever said that the "trying as an adult" thing should apply to this sort of thing too. If she's retarded enough to go the distance in misrepresenting her age so that she can have sex with guys legally too old to have sex with her, then the law should see her as an adult. The act of having sex with a 13 year old girl is most certainly wrong on a few levels. However, SHE is certainly responsible for it happening in this case. She is accessory to a crime because she made it happen. If he's going to get in trouble, so should she. And this guy is at least SOMEWHAT a victim here. He will be labeled as a pedophile for the rest of his life. Wherever he lives, he'll have to go around knocking on doors to let people know. He won't be able to live in neighborhoods close to schools. If a school is built in a neighborhood where he lives, he'll be forced to move. His name and location will be on the internet. He'll be turned down for jobs because of it. Him having sex with a girl who convinced him that she was old enough to have sex with has essentially ruined his life to some extent. That is serious shit, and it all started with her portraying herself at no less than 5 years older than she actually is. She deserves to burn in hell for her lie. I'm just speaking my mind here | ||||

| Probation still equals a sex offender scarlet letter. That damned sex offender scarlet letter needs to go away if you want to hold him responsible for something like this - it's going to ruin his life. | ||||

| And if so, the state needs to do a better job because people of far less moral character than this young man get away with it ALL THE FUCKING TIME in small towns. | ||||

I mean, where is the cutoff here?
