| So there have been several robberies in apartment complexes in my area... I've been thinking about getting some type of protection. I often like going out late for a walk or a drive, or I'm taking the dog or the trash out, or I go to the pool here.. whatever, especially during the summer when it's nice out. But, I don't want to be defenseless if by chance these guys happen to come here and I'm out there. So, what do you guys think the best options are? I know you can get a conceal and carry license around here, but I'm not sure that's necessarily the route I want to go | ||||

| Yeah, but if the robberies involve people being held up at gun point, what's the point of having any of those things? As the old adage goes, don't bring a knife to a gun fight. However, if it's just strong-arm robberies, any of those things would be inexpensive, probably effective, and would make motivez feel safer. | ||||

| One of them involved a gun and was actually a neighbor of mine last summer, since then I believe it's just been people being assaulted.. the two guys sucker punched some girl and stole her purse, same with another guy I was thinking a taser or something (that way I could say, "I'm gonna tase you, bro"), but those are only good for one shot without having to reset, and they don't always work Pepper spray kinda feels girlish, plus you have to worry about the wind.. | ||||

| I'm going to go ahead and suggest that half the problem is situational awareness, and that if you're not willing to potentially take someone's life for stealing your stuff, then simply adding situational awareness to your daily life will probably solve the problem for you. If you get a firearm or other weapon you'll need to do this anyway so that it's not taken and used against you. | ||||

| Sort of in connection with situational awareness, walk strong and confidently. You will make yourself a less desirable target as robbers will try to avoid any target that appears more likely to stand up for himself. This won't help against desperate crackheads though. | ||||

| Well if you dont want a gun that raises a few questions... 1) are you always aware of whats happening around you when you go outside? 2) are you big/strong enough to keep someone from taking a taser or a knife and then using it on you? *by the way most tasers as you mentioned are one shot 3) I think a gun is the best protection, are you sure you dont want to take a concealed carry class? | ||||

But I say get whatever makes you feel safer, the safer you feel the more confident you will look

| Pepper spray is probably one of the better solutions. Who cares if it's girly? You rather be mugged? But as it was said earlier, walk confidently and make sure you have something on you. Since a gun isn't really an option to you, I would get the pepper spray, it's extremely effective. | ||||

| In England, pepper spray, tasers, etcetera are illegal. Instead, they encourage the use of whistles. But there are laws restricting the maximum decibel levels of those whistles. I know a girl that bought an illegal whistle to protect herself while in a neighborhood that was suffering from a spree of rapes. Now that's just fucking sad. What a pathetic little pink-stained Orwellian shithole. | ||||
