I think it is safe to say we can compare it to being uncomfortable around black people in the 1940s 50s and 60s.

People were using the same arguments then and it was not valid. Give them special bathrooms! They stank! I nearly slip and fell on the curl juice! I am not afraid of em i juz dont like it!

Eventually people got over it... and I think the same will happen for gay folks. Its just really sad to see we haven't truly changed much and still desire to be seperated because of our differences.

that is the key to this thread right here. I am uncomfortable living with homosexuals, I would prefer not to completely. Public opinion may sway in 10-20 years but the military is not worried about that; they infact are worried about putting out the best product and right now that means no public homosexuality.

Personally, if the gay guy does it in a tasteful manner, i dont mind them tossing a compliment. The reason is if they dig it, some of the chicks probably do too. Thats why girls have gay friends and go shopping and shit together.

Anyway if "he" says something about it, that means there are some chicks thinking the same thing.

Earlier, she said, she had noticed unusual behavior by her squad leader, who warned her away from fellow soldiers with such advice as: "Watch out for that guy. He's going to hit on you."

One night, as they stood near a Humvee at Camp Lima, he grabbed her and kissed her. "I didn't want to have sex with him," she said. "I didn't like him." But she said she feared retaliation if she refused. "I had a choice," she acknowledges, "but it wasn't much of a choice." She said that some nights, he would pound on her door, drunk and pressing her for sex.

Another woman who was in Swift's unit, who did not want to be identified for fear of retribution, said that the same sergeant also propositioned her during her tour in Iraq. She said she had no doubt it had happened to Swift.

And IMO, enuogh evidence that would make it a broad problem for it to be something to be concerned about.

They're called "conservatives" for a reason, change isn't something they deal with well.. it takes longer for them to come around to the viewpoint of the rest of society on issues like this.

I just did.

The problem is, the 'don't ask don't tell' policy keeps them from being obvious about things, for fear of getting kicked out. If that policy wasn't there, you think they'd remain so quiet, or would they act like these guys do with the women there?
