Fox Ambushes Bill Moyers

Let's test this out. I can never remember how to post youtube videos here.

I really loved this one. Bill O'Reilly producer Porter Barry tries to ambush Bill Moyers at the 2008 National Conference for Media Reform. Moyers fights him to a standstill, and Barry leaves with his tail between his legs.

(snip)

Moyers: If Bill O'Reilly wants to lie, let him lie. You don't need to lie for him.

Barry: I'm not lying for him.

Moyers: You said he said he'd come on my show.

Barry: You guys talked about doing your program, and you tried to play games with him, and that's why it didn't happen.

Moyers: What? What kinda games?

Barry: I'm not gonna get into the back and forth.

Moyers: No, what... come on.

Barry: I'm not gonna get into the back and forth!

Moyers: What kinda games?

Barry: Why don't you come on O'Reilly's...?

Moyers: What... what kinda games?

Barry: ...you can talk about your...

Moyers: Listen...

Barry: ...you can talk, you can talk about your issues with O'Reilly.

Moyers: On the record: I will come on the O'Reilly show, first, when Rupert Murdoch has explained why we're not getting twenty dollars a barrel oil for the Iraq war he said would deliver. Secondly, I will come on Bill O'Reilly's show after he accepts my invitation to be on my show, unedited, discuss... a whole hour. I'll give him a whole hour.

Bystander: Wow.

Moyers: And then, I will come on Bill O'Reilly's show. Now, you go back and take that message, but let's see if that message gets on the air! And, if it doesn't, y'know... if you want a job, I may have some recommendations for you!

(snip)

The very best part IMHO are the reporters chasing Barry and totally ripping on him. It's priceless.

(snip)

Reporter 1: Do you consider what you just did journalism?

Barry: Mr. Moyers just called me one.

Reporter 1: Yeah, but I'm asking your opinion, do you feel like you're a good journalist?

Barry: I was perfectly respectful and honest.

Reporter 1: Were you coming here to attack or to try and set up a... (inaudible)

Barry: I was there to ask Mr. Moyers what he was doing here and if he would come on O'Reilly's show instead of preaching to the choir.

Reporter 1: Well, I'm not the choir, I'm an objective journalist, but I've never used this technique before right now.

Barry: Well, you're doing it!

Reporter 1: Yeah, I am, because I'm watching and learning from the master.

Barry: (Inaudible) ...I'm not putting my hands on you, don't put your hands on me, okay?

Reporter 1: Okay. Yeah, I'm just trying to find out what you're trying to achieve with this kind of line of questioning.

Barry: How many times do you want me to say it, huh?

Reporter 1: How many times did you ask Bill the same question?

(No reply.)

Reporter 1: I just want to know one thing: Is what you're doing journalism? That's all I want to know.

Barry: You just... you just saw.

Reporter 1: This is journalism?

Reporter 2: It felt like you were setting up an att...

Barry: I was asking Mr. Moyers a question!

Reporter 2: It felt... it felt like you were setting up an attack piece.

Reporter 1: Kinda like this. This is sorta like an attack piece.

Reporter 2: Like what we're doing to you.

Barry; I was not pushing you... I was not pushing Mr. Moyers...

Reporter 1: I'm sorry for touching your jacket.

Reporter 3: Do you want to elaborate on the claims that Bill Moyers was playing games with O'Reilly about the discussions to appear on his show?

Barry; Shut it off. We're, we're good, man.

Reporter 3: So... no further comment on what kind of game playing...?

Barry: ...we're good.

Reporter 1: We're going to edit this... on the Internet, unedited, in a few... in about an hour, and we'll compare it to what you have on O'Reilly. Have a good day.

gotchya B. S.

I never did like the gotchya B. S. type of stuff. Try to get someone off balance or bug the hell out of them until they say that one sentance or comment you are waiting for. Then they edit the hell out of the conversation, use it out of context and play it 24/7. So many shows do it now I wonder if they are just to lazy to do it right or do they not know how?
We are partly to blame because we see those chop jobs once they are edited and say Aha! Did you see what so and so said? I knew (insert party or company name here ) were crooked bugers!

I totally agree. Another thing I don't understand is the refusal to play an entire clip on TV. There's 24 hours of news to fill, and I don't know why they can't just show the entire clip sometimes. The "don't tase me, bro" incident was a perfect example of how editing distorts an event. It was impossible to put it all in proper context by watching it on TV. Only on the internet could you see the uncut version and find out what happened immediately prior to the fracas.

Viva Le Internetcionaise!

I do wonder how they covered it on O'Reilly's show. You'd have to do some creative editing to make Barry look good. It must have been hell for Barry to go back to the office and try to explain what went on.

(And "Porter Barry"... WTF's up with the first name for a last name and a last name for a first name?)

They're a propaganda network with the most biased overall coverage of any news network or organization out there.. I find it hard to believe that so many people continue to take them seriously.

That's why they don't show the whole clip(s) in most instances, creative editing (like when O'Reilly tried to violate security lines to get access to Obama) to make other people look bad while making themselves look good is standard procedure.

Looks like O'Reilly edited the clip after all. If we didn't know he didn't have any journalistic integrity before (), he just proved it to all of us..

Hard to believe... well, easy to believe, really. Was this really everything that O'Reilly did on the incident? Totally ignoring Moyers' offer and the whole "game-playing" deal? if so... what a joke.

O'really talking about inappropriate behavior? Coming from the guy who sexually harassed a woman he worked with? Talk about hypocrisies!
