Worst. Country. Ever.

I'm kinda bored so I thought I'd start a stupid poll

Which country do you feel is the most fucked up? I answered the question based on where I would least like to live, and I went with Zimbabwe, but it was a close call between them and North Korea. Feel free to add you own countries on there if you feel I missed a real fucked up country.

Edit
Some food for thought for those of you struggling with your decision

The first link is a really interesting mini-documentary about this guy who just went around NK with a video camera, creepy stuff.

I'm gonna have to go with Burma. Sudan is pretty fucked up too. I voted for Burma just because of thier government's response to the massive humanitarian disaster. Turning away foreign aid for fear that they might look weak. Stealing supplies donated by other countries and using it for thier military even as it's citizens wallow in misery with no food or shelter, with more dying every day.

Zimbabwe and NK would be my top choices as well.

The only difference between the two is NK has finished what they're trying to do in Zimbabwe. Maybe NK is worse because afaik people can still travel outside of Zimbabwe without threat of arrest.

I may be splitting hairs here but....
They are not turning away foreign aid because they may appear weak.
They are turning it away because they don't want outsiders to know how bad the situation is and that they are doing little about it because they don't care, and because it is harder for starving people to start an rebellion.

I stick by my Zimbabwe vote
Mugabe's militia burn wife of opposition leader alive | FP Passport
The men who pulled up in three white pickup trucks were looking for Patson Chipiro, head of the Zimbabwean opposition party in Mhondoro district. His wife, Dadirai, told them he was in Harare but would be back later in the day, and the men departed.
An hour later they were back. They grabbed Mrs Chipiro and chopped off one of her hands and both her feet. Then they threw her into her hut, locked the door and threw a petrol bomb through the window.

Excellent question.

I haven't voted yet, still thinking, but I'm leaning towards North Korea.

I voted Burma/Myanmar. I think the junta there keeps the people in such an impoverished state, it's nearly impossible for them to hope to rise up against them. And getting hit by a cyclone and the government just letting 100k people die with no hope of help is straight up evil.

I did think about Sudan and Zimbabwe though. Any of those three would be just horrible to live in.

consider this before you cast your vote in this most important of elections sir,
AFP: Mugabe brandishes spectre of war in vote build-up

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe raised the spectre of war on Friday by warning that his staunchest supporters are ready to take up arms rather than let the opposition triumph in a June 27 election.
...
Although Mugabe told supporters of his ZANU-PF party he did not want a return to war, he repeatedly raised the threat of conflict and warned voters against making a "mistake".
I just can't believe how brazen he is about it, openly saying that he would rather force a civil war than peacefully give up power, it just blows my mind.

lol @ inclusion of Canada.

I went with Sudan over Burma in a close one. At least in Burma the government is being honest about the atrocities they're committing; the Sudanese flat-out lie and say they can't control the actions of the Janjaweed.

LOL@people actually voting Canada, that's my country

I have been to only one of those places (obviously) so can't really give an intelligent answer. You can't believe what you know of a place because you saw it on the news. What do you think America looks like to other people when all they see of it is the Bush Admin

I almost put New Jersey instead of Canada, but i figured this way would be more likely to offend more people. Iunno man, places like Zimbabwe, Maymar, and North Korea are pretty fucked up, some of it might be exaggerated, but some of it is documentaries, public statements from their leaders, thing that are less likely to be interpreted by the media.

Out of the ones listed, I voted for North Korea. Largest forced labor camps in the world, lots of political prisoners, 2-3 million dead due to famine, economic hardships and poverty due to governmental xenophobia, people being executed simply for leaving the country. Little to no religious or political freedoms.

Not to say that the situation in other countries isn't bad right now, but I think that North Korea is a pretty bad place to live, more people have died from starvation in North Korea, then have been killed by the Janjaweed.

When I think of Sudan though, I am thinking about the current political setup where the north and south have a slight hold on the fighting, thus I am not including the conditions that existed during the Sudanese north/south civil conflict.

If I had to pick a second place then I would give it the the Sudan, then Iraq, then Palestine, then Zimbabwe, then Burma.

Even though I placed Burma last, I tend to be more passionate about the Burma issue then say about the North Korean for some reason (probably because it was pretty much the the first human rights issue that I really looked into). I really support Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the NLD.

Also, there are a lot of countries that didn't make the list that I wouldn't want to live in either, such as Somalia, the DR Congo, Northern Uganda, the Ogaden region of Ethiopia (or really any part of the country) etc. . .

I especially think that the DR Congo is one of the worst right now given its unstable climate, the fact that Ebola is still decimating the country and the fact that around 4 million people have been killed their since 1998 due to the ongoing conflict. The region is stabalizing a bit here and there, but it has had such an ugly history from its days as Zaire to the present. The political situation isn't good at all either. At least in countries like Burma you have the glimmer of hope within the NLD and Suu Kyi, but in the Congo? You have rebels and a government who care about profit through conflict resources, with both sides killing civilians and with war criminals heading pretty much all teams.
