I realize it's a confidence thing, but it just rubs me the wrong way. I want them to act like they're vying for the job, not acting like they already have it. I'd just rather hear "I will" or "when I'm". ...and that's my Andy Rooney post for the month...

| Does it bother anyone else when the candidates say "I WILL be the next President"? I realize it's a confidence thing, but it just rubs me the wrong way. | I feel the same way.. Every time Hillary would say something like "And the next President, whomever she will be..." I wanted to gag myself with a spoon. | ||||

| I mean, you're right it is a confidence thing, but it's extremely arrogant. I mean, you have to be very self confident to think you're literally the best person in the world to run the country as President, but that goes beyond self confidence. | ||||

| You have to create a self fulfilling prophecy situation in order to be elected... I don't think it would be possible to win without doing this. Example - Ron Paul didn't do this, that I'm aware of anyway. Look where he ended up. You could argue that it was his ideas, and maybe that was a big part of it, but he never projected confidence, image, the air of a leader. I think he would have been a better one than McCain easily, but he just isn't good at creating that perception. And perceptions, ladies and gentlemen, are all that counts. | ||||

| And it makes me want to say "And I WILL not vote for you"

He also never translated his online support to feet on the ground.. while there were a lot of home made signs and whatnot everywhere (I saw plenty around here), I never heard of any real ground game in NC or anywhere else | ||||

| bumping this thread with some relevance. Since we have both presumptive nominees, I havn't heard any of this "I will" nonsense. Past couple weeks I've been hearing "...if you elect me..." The "I will" must be a primary thing I'm guessing | ||||

| I guess it'd look far more arrogant in the general election cycle than it would in the primary.. in the primary you're playing to an audience who wants to see you (or one of your competitors) as President, in the general you're trying to win over other folks as well | ||||

| This is where Obama went wrong with the Obama Presidential Seal. It came off as arrogant. | ||||
