| We've hashed this out numerous times. There a few apologetics who claim it wasn't said the way it was. Juan Paul was the first and most people tend to cite his translation. Here is the more accepted translation by the NY Times Tehran bureau:
The NY Times was asked to make a retraction after Cole's followers cried foul. They flatly refused and said Cole is wrong. I believe I read the same thing from an NBC translator who said the same thing. When asked to give a retraction they said they went back over it and said the original translation is correct. Neither of these media organizations supports conflict with Iran. Here is what Ahmadinejad had to say about the wiped off the map comments when asked to take it back.

| It's fine that you've "hashed it out" and it looks like the NYTimes is your source. If you could provide me with the original, non-translated quote by Ahmadinejad and his specific use of the Persian word for map, "nagsheh," then I'll believe it. I have no problem admitting to being wrong about something. It's easy this day and age for misinformation to occur. the morningside post: What's Real and What's Fiction About Ahmadinejad? I find it odd that Snopes and Truth or Fiction have nothing on this. I beleive it to be just another media attempt to propagate. But that's just me... ![]() Fed Up

I don't think making remarks about bombing another country are okay to make in a jovial manner. How can we expect McCain to have any kind of diplomatic relationship with Iran, who we're going to need as a partner to fix Iraq, when he's making jokes about bombing another country? That's a trigger he would have his finger on if he gets elected. Originally Posted by TankRizzo I don't live in NYC or LA, and I care about it. What you're really saying is it's cool in conservative circles to joke about bombing another country. You know, because a bunch of people dying and getting blown up is cool and all.. as long as it's not the people in the World Trade Center. nuke the entire middle east! make it a parking lot! bomb iran! rarr!

| Politics is Perception. I'm sorry, but the USA does not have a great perception amongst other countries right now. We are seen as occupiers in a nation that didn't want us there in the first place, we are seen as overbearing, manifest destiny seekers that wish to control anyone and everyone. There is a 'You are with us, or you are against us' mentality. How do I know that? Because our wonderful, esteemed, incredibly diplomatic president said those exact words to the rest of the world regarding the War on Terror when it was just beginning. 'You are either with us, or you are with the terrorists'. Brilliant job, Bushy. So, when the leader of Iran hears the song, "bomb, bomb, bomb; bomb, bomb Iran,' coming from the mouth of (possibly) the next president of the United States, and knowing the relationship between the U.S. and Iran, I don't think Ahmadinajad is going to find that joke particularly hysterical. Every single person that says, "oh my god, it's just a joke, lighten up," would be among the first to stand up and condemn Iran for making the very same joke against the United States. We would take it seriously, because of the relationship (or lack there of) we have about that country. In politics, people lose elections because of dumb ass jokes. Just look at the idiotic joke Obama made on Sunday night regarding Asians and those of Asian decent. It was a HORRIBLE joke, it was just BAD, and coming from a guy who says that we shouldn't be bringing race into this campaign, it was also a stupid blunder on his part. Now, obviously the 'asians are short' joke is nothing compared to the 'bomb Iran' song, but these are going to be our leaders. These people are going to be the ones that are going to go to the table in Iran, and one of them is going to have to explain what he meant by 'bomb, bomb, bomb Iran'. With all the talk there has been about invading Iran unless they stop their uranium Enrichment, do you honestly think that there is an Iranian that WOULDN'T take that joke seriously? If the U.S. had been threatening for months to take military action against my country, and then the possible next President of the U.S. sang along with that song on a nationally syndicated radio show...I'd be more than a little pissed. Come on people, use your brains. You might think it's funny, but it's always stuff like this that's sets off peoples tempers. | ||||

But they are! Have you been there?? I have. I'm 6'2"/6'3" and I was a fucking GIANT! A guy used me as a landmark for christ's sake. In a hotel lobby there was a guy on a cell phone standing next to me talking to someone. When I walked away he started walking with me just a bit too close. So I turned and said "can I help you?" and in his best engrish he said "I told someone to meet me near you." I hate it when people get pussyhurt when someone says something true.
