| Supreme Court restores Habeas Corpus, rebukes Bush and the Military Commissions Act
I love Glenn Greenwald. He says it so much better than I ever could. A huge to the Supreme Court for making the right decision. This is excellent news, I have been ashamed of Congress and the media for giving President Bush a pass on this.. he's essentially given himself the powers of a dictator, claimed he can hold people indefinitely with no ability to challenge their detention.. including American citizens. If we think someone is guilty of a crime, they should be tried in a fair, impartial court system. There's no excuse to prevent people from having the ability to challenge their detention. This is another reason I'll be voting for Obama. As Greenwald points out in his update:
It's very likely that the next President will be given the extraordinary task of replacing 3 of the Justices currently sitting on the court, all of which voted today for the restriction of Presidential power.. Obama will appoint people he thinks will serve with a similar mind. McCain wants to appoint people who'd let the President continue his policy of extraordinary rendition and indefinite detention. | These are not soldiers captured on the field of battle. they are not part of any regular army. They are, for all intents and purposes, international criminals. No different than drug dealers, human smugglers, or gun runners. | ||||

| Excellent ruling. We have no business holding people without a trial. It goes counter to everything this country stands for (or at least used to). | ||||
