If washington DC were attacked by muslim extremist would you be ok with bombing Mecca?

Guys I was listenign to the radio on the way to work this morning and they had a caller who basically said if we get attacked again, especially in Washington DC and we link it back to muslim extremist that we should bomb Mecca. I thought this would be a very interesting topic of discussion and fit for a poll.

I do not think bombing Mecca would be an appropriate response. The callers point was the extremists view Mecca as a holy site and would NOT bomb/terrorize the US if they thought Mecca would be in jeopardy. Personally I disagree, I do not think they care if Mecca is bombed so long as they hurt the US and/or western interests. I also have a problem with bombing a holy city when its a small percentage of muslims that are the problem in their religion.

No, that would be like bombing the vatican if priests molest children or bombing jerusalem if some jewish group bombs, oh, i dunno, berlin... I realize I'm coming up with analogies that are maybe not the best, but hopefully you get the idea.

As Scrum said, that would cause problems with the entire Middle East and not just the radicals. Also, just the idea of it and the threat of it is enough to piss people off. It's a pretty radical idea that I don't think was thought through logically. We have enough extremists who want to kill us.

Yup, not only would it make the terrorist more active but we'd have the entire muslim community extremists or not against the western world. DUMB move IMO.

Absolutely not. We should of course go after the people who perpetrated the attack, those who supported and provided for them, but to go after a cultural and religious site not involved in the attack is utterly stupid

I think the argument is if they were to bomb our capital we should bomb their holy city as a deterrent. Basically make it known that if they bomb DC they'll lose Mecca. And if they do bomb DC, we should carry out our threat.

not to mention it's an invitation for anyone who hates muslims to bomb DC, knowing we'd retaliate against mecca in a way that they couldn't.

when i was teaching a kid (an asshole) failed and threatened me with "maybe I'll put a bag of weed in your car and you'll get arrested." I laughed and told him I'd never done it so they could test me 100 times and find I'm clean. Then I said "And you also just gave someone who hates YOU a way to get you. Now anyone with a grudge can plant pot in my car and YOU'RE going to get blamed." You should have seen his eyes get real wide

I agree, dumb idea. Deterring a threat against extremists may not be possible at all, but to punish all Muslims for the crimes of what would really only be a handful is stupid.

I can't believe he's actually a public official though. Very disappointing..
