I watched Gilligan's Island too, and The Adams Family!

They were reruns by that point though.

Well, I watched the newests broadcasts of both. The biggests costume for little girls on Halloween, 1964 was Morticia Addams!

Heck! I watched new broadcasts of Bob Hope entertaining our troops in Vietnam!

I've read a few of your posts. Depression ran/runs in my family - I dared to force it to stop with me after the death of my brother. He committed suicide in the same way as our father. I had the urge to "end it" myself for over over 30 years..well, I let it control me for that long, now it does not, but the demon will always have to be fought.

But I am off-subject.

I've been "old" since the 6th grade, maybe earlier, but I identified its beginning in that era.

You are old when the past becomes bittersweet, when mourning what has been lost or what could have been..is the sweetest feeling. You are old when the present is not real until it becomes the past.

I always looked forward to being old, because that was freedom to me. "old people" have nothing to prove, nothing to gain, nothing to lose, the past is done.

It's not about TV shows or prices, it is more than that. Old age is more than wrinkles, it is a state of mind. ANd what of it? Old age brings wisdom, and nothing beats that.

BTW, I'd bet you look nothing like your Avatar, but if you do, well, its still pretty cute!
Thank you Darlin, I am doing ok. You are right. Depression is a demon.
Right now I am fighting 2 demons. Depression and smoking.
And I am going through a lot of changes in my life right now.
I agree with you about the wisdom you have when you get older.
Problem is, I really could have used some of that wisdom 30 years ago.
But being older does have an upside. You begin to feel mortal and realize that after you die, the only thing you have is what you gave away on Earth. I plan on doing some good while I'm still here. I would like to help other people with their depression. Helping other people is great therapy also.

Liking old shows and music doesn't make you old. I like them but I don't dwell on them. I am in the present and think of the past very little. I have kids that are having kids and that is enough to keep me going, and trying to keep up with what those crazy, dense, ignorant, selfish egotistical politicans are up to. Have they destroyed this country maybe. The ultimate protection of this country is the people and their ability to vote. That is a big picture thought but one we must believe. So every one is important and we must work at the job of being citizen all our lives, even when we think we are old geezers.

Smoking isn't a demon, it is a habit - a crutch. I know this is not PC to say, but I'd fight the real demon of depression and keep the smokes, they do have a calming effect even if it is a placebo-like thing.

Moralists in todays society, those who try to blame smokers for killing children and crippling others with their foul second-hand smoke, should be allowed their feelings of superiority and selff-righteousness - just not at your expense if you happen to enjoy tobacco - a legal product.

As far as wisdom is concerned - it is an earned thing. Sure, in retrospect, I'd have loved to know what I know ow 30 years ago. But if I had, well, I'd have lost more than I saved. I would not have not had as much fun, or made the mistakes required to have the wisdom I do now (such as it is!)

Your desire to help others is a good thing, certainly more than I have attempted to do; I hope you get the chance to do so - you seem very caring and the world needs more people who truly care.

old age is when narrow waists and broad minds exchange places.

[quote=Stylerod;189311]I think I'm a pretty "young" 43. As much as I love my old Floyd, Zep, Cheap Trick, Black Sabbath etc I really am enjoying the new alternative music. I can't get enough of the Foo Fighters, Radiohead, RHCP, Queens of the Stone Age and others. I have Sirius radio and it's always on Channel 21 which is all the new Alternative.
