Moving sucks

I don't care where you are going or why, moving sucks.
There is the packing and moving furniture and cleaning, and the realization that you just have too much useless stuff.
When I got married 7 years ago, I had so much stuff and my wife had so much stuff that we had to rent one of those self storage spaces to put some of our stuff in. Then after paying tons of money over the years for this storage space, I went in there and looked around. 90% of it could have been thrown away and neither of us would have missed it.
When I was in my 20's, I used to rent furnished apartments. The great thing about that was that it took about 4 hours to move out.
Now I have all this stuff. But I am on a anti-stuff rampage.
I have started throwing away and giving away stuff like a madman.
I realize now that everyone's home is like a stuff motel.
Stuff checks in but it never checks out.

I've rented a storage unit twice. Both times, when I was done, I was like ugh. Why did I bother storing this, I shoulda just thrown it out.

I moved to NC in 2000 and I still have shit in boxes that I never bothered to unpack

I'd throw it out, but a lot of it is stuff I think I'll want to look at 'some day'

During the construction the builder brought in a 30 yard dumpster and said I should use the opportunity to clean out my basement.

I filled one and half of a second, and now that it's gone I'm realizing I could have filled the rest of that second one.

my parents were moving out and we found probably 15 boxes they hadn't opened in their 22 years living there. my mom wanted to go through them and we almost didn't let her. she finally said she just wanted to look for pictures so we let her open them before we tossed them in the pick-up to go to the dump.

she found one shoe box with pictures. everything else hit the trash.

I did go through them a few years ago and throw some stuff away, but the vast majority of it I just put back in the box and it's now in storage

I'll be moving at the end of the summer. Not looking forward to the work, but it's worth it in the end. Just think of the result
