First off, I was expecting about 30 #10 food cans duck taped together and somekind of lighter fluid fuel system. Maybe a few middle aged guys standing around it with shit eating grins, and a few budweiser cans laying around.
How in hell do you get whatever authorization you have to have to build and launch something like that?

We're doing it for a school competition. Otherwise you just need an explosives permit and to let the FAA know when you are launching. There is actually a program in your home state, Michigan, where high school students launch rockets around this size over lake Michigan.

I don't remember building anything that big in my model rocket building days. However, I did once take a model rocket and fill the parachute chamber with gun powder. 6 seconds after lift off...bada bing bada boom.

Ya know, If I was a terrorist, I think I would lower my expectations a little bit. Aim low and try to shoot down a channel 5 traffic helicopter or something. Jihad is so over rated, and frankly, I aint strappin no bomb on me for nobody.
