I never liked the inherent sexism in our courts when it came to divorce. This is a good thing.

I would prefer statutory limits on all spousal support. Just set the max to something like 200% of the poverty line and leave it at that.

The idea that marrying someone entitles you to a certain quality of live seems silly to me.

Exactly. I can become used to being rich but that does not mean I am entitled to it forever. If I was making a millions of dollars a year, but then went broke the government (or anyone else) wouldn't keep giving millions of dollars a year so I don't see why spouses should have pay / get money for lifestyle.

I understand divorce and splitting up assets and money - but paying to maintain lifestyle is silly

It's a sad fact but some people do marry for money. If you sign a contract saying till death do us part, and you breach that contract, you are liable for damages.

What a shitty view of marriage huh? And people actually care whether or not gays marry but they turn thier heads and ignore the 50% divorce rate and shit lke this.
