Findings on the Pentagon's detainee policies

AP - Key findings of an investigation by the Senate Armed Services Committee on the Pentagon's detainee policies:

_The office of Pentagon general counsel William "Jim" Haynes sought information in July 2002 on a military program that trained Army soldiers on how to survive enemy interrogations and deny foes valuable intelligence.

_Program officials provided the Pentagon a list of interrogation methods, including sensory deprivation, sleep disruption and stress positions.

_In November 2002, military lawyers objected to the use of the harsh techniques. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld endorsed the techniques to be used at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba.

_A top military lawyer at Guantanamo said prisoners were exposed to previously forbidden techniques, such as sleep deprivation, but that such treatment was hidden from the International Committee of the Red Cross.
