| With the massive immigration to this landscape, and living in the post-industrial age, I think that when I look at Abigail Adams photography, I am seeing a different America than we are seeing now. And I wish we had that old America back. We have destroyed our landscape, and the air we breathe, and in the short time I have been on this planet, I get sun burnt in 10 mintes compared to the hour it used to take. It's not a secret that our occupation on earth has consequences. We aren't just observivng ecosystems, we are part of them. And if that is the message he is spreading, than preach on. (I, by the way, haven't seen his film, paid for his book, or really care about his endorements.) And I hope he changes his lightbulbs to energy saving ones. Aside from that, I don't care to pinpoint one stamp of hypocrisy, when I have been living under it for years. | ||||

that's because you're getting old, not because of anything to do with the atmosphere.

And we might boast that we live longer now, and that we have all these chemicals, and so one, but to me that is just a struggle of idealogies between the natural, and science. In Walden by Thoreau he writes "Simplify, simplify." and I think that our country led the rest of the world into this current trend of excess, which has dire consequences. This is alot bigger than Al Gore, or Bill Clinton, or Bush. This is about a world 'en mass that is loosing touch with what it means to have things simple. But, I think this country can lead back to living life simply, in all facets. Was it the best life? Maybe not for some, which is obviously why we have "progress." But, much like the hole in the ozone layer (which hasn't sealed up, but expanded) we are going to end up the products of our own demise. I don't expect to live my life never feeling tragedy. People die, I'm gonna die, children die, but this world has come to expect so much, with little work for what it has, that for some reason we act like we have a right to be here. If we want to survive, then we're going to have to learn to adapt to our surroundings. Instead of digging it up, blowing it up, and poisoning it.

| We're saving money but turning away from fossil fuels? Oil is THIRD in energy per dollar even at 130 dollars a barrel. It is THIRD, nothing comes close to getting us as much energy per dollar. Renewables aren't even in the same zip code, state, country or planet right now. Oil is still cheap on an energy generation basis. Two things are cheaper Coal which is dirtier than oil and natural gas which is extremely clean but not as widely used as oil. | ||||

| it wasnt "simpler" by any means. accomplishing things that we consider menial tasks today- like getting food- required you to do much more work than go to the supermarket and drop some cash. you know how they made their clothes? they chewed the fuck out of leather to make it soft and wearable. yea, those were the days. | ||||

| You all act like this is a simple comparing of apples to apples. Wickedlou is right. My own electric bill increased this year due to doing more printing at home of reports for work and more computer usage as part of my job. If Al Gore's usage increased due to research to combat global warming or due to printing off reports on a printer he bought to be more energy efficient than taking his reports to kinkos, then it's kind of a null point isn't it. Comparing such things is equivalent to saying George Bush spent more time out of the office this year than any other president in history. Without context it looks like he is a slacker, but if he was traveling to meet leaders in their own country and attending summits, he may have actually worked harder this year than any year in his term. Data without context is useless dribble for people looking to score a quick political point. Partisan lemmings tend to jump on the bandwagon, as evidenced in this thread. Most intelligent people, who are not blinded by party affiliation, can see right though it. | ||||
