Iran’s president says Bush pushing for war

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how so many people 'respect' this guy. The fact that we're making a spectacle out of him, the fact that we're giving him so many chances to do his thing, the fact that we're having him romp around our very own country while he spreads his anti-US propaganda. Amazing. A few things I found humorous:

“The U.S. government thinks that it’s still the period after World War II,” Ahmadinejad said in an interview with Brian Williams

You mean we're NOT in a time after WWII?!!! Maybe we're now in a time before WWII???

But “the world has changed,” he said. “Nations are awakened now. They want their rights — equal rights, and fair ones. The time for world empires has ended.”

Equal rights? Fair rights? Like the ones in your own country Mr. President? Like the right for Israel to exist?

“Why is the U.S. government so against our people?” Ahmadinejad, speaking through a translator,

Um, because you threaten them daily?

“They speak of war so easily, as if it’s on their daily agenda. We never speak of war.”

Except for the times you threaten to 'wipe Israel off the map' or the US will suffer a massive blow or attack if they implement sanctions? Or how about how the Imam is supposed to return under much bloodshed and you intend to help that alone? Yeah, you never talk about war.

And we are against killing people

Um, you are?! Unless they are infidels I guess?

“We thought we might be able to have friendly relations with the United States,” he added.

Except all those times you refused to cooperate?

“Just look at the 20th century, for example, and the wars waged in that century,” he said. “Over 100 million people were killed. Hundreds of millions more were displaced. Who created those wars?

Umm...Stalin, Lenin, Hitler, Japan...the list goes on and on.

“Those who were killed exceed the number [of] the individuals who were killed in previous centuries combined. Where do the first and second world wars occur? Who started it?” he asked.

Europe and Asia I guess...

Anyway, I thought this speech was pretty much...stupid.

I had .1 respect for the guy after the 60 minutes interview, but now after he pushed for more protests against the Pope I realize he's just and educated "one of those".

I thought he said the apologies from the Pope were enough? He did in the interview anyway. He changes his tune quite often.

how would you like it if a coalition of islamic countries invaded the US, toppled half a dozen state gov'ts, enforced martial/sharia law, annexed our natural resources, and decided that we MUST give the state of south carolina to muslim-style gov't? What would be your first impulse? Right, that's what I thought...and I'd probably be right beside you.

Again, what would you have bush doing if we were invaded/annexed by them instead? He'd be spouting the same kinds of patriotic kill-'em-all rhetoric, and in this case, he'd actually be right!

only because the west has tread on their sovereignty for the last 80 years and they have no other way of striking back? As you well know, the religion is being used as the propaganda device because it's such a central focus on life there. The real reasons for terrorism is lack of alternative resistance. How would you suggest they resist our occupation? ..or better question: how would you resist their hypothetical coalition? It's pretty obvious to me that they're not fans of democracy or western culture, so why bother with them?

Would you be ok with letting weapons inspectors from known enemy countries into our most secret weapons and technology research facilities? Of course not, right? Our terms were unacceptable to them for the same reasons. Political games are played by ALL sides. There's no moral highground here.

True, but I question how biased my history lessons were on issues like this.

I don't think this guy's a saint, or unbiased, or even factually correct, but I can't blame him for the positions he's taking because I'd expect to hear the same rhetoric from our leaders if we were under seige by an impossible-to-beat enemy. Hell, that's how the administration is spinning things as they are! I cant imagine what they'd do if we were seriously threatened by a superior adversary.

Well Duh! Iran is a threat to the U.S. as opposed to Iraq and Bush needs another war to bolster his popularity. So for REAL reasons and political reasons it makes sense that we are pushing for war with Iran. Hell we have over 100,000 troops right next door, might as well have them make a housecall.
