McCain flip flops on Social Security

THEN:

* 2004: "Without privatization, I don't see how you can possibly, over time, make sure that young Americans are able to receive Social Security benefits. [C-Span Road to the White House, 11/18/2004]

* 2005: "McCain has been especially supportive of his onetime rival, appearing with Bush at three events over the past two days in trying to prod Democrats into negotiations to include private accounts in a plan to revamp Social Security." [Washington Post, 3/23/05]

* 2008: "As part of Social Security reform, I believe that private savings accounts are a part of it - along the lines of what President Bush proposed. I campaigned in support of President Bush's proposal and I campaigned with him, and I did town hall meetings with him." [Wall Street Journal, 3/3/08]
NOW:

But I'm not for, quote, "privatizing" Social Security. I never have been, I never will be.
And John Kerry was the flip flopper?

Seriously it just gets better and better. I don't know if these are senior moments or if he just thinks he can get away with it because he's used to a time in politics when people couldn't easily search for everything you've ever said on an issue with ease

All the Democrats need to do is put all of these blatant flip flops in one commercial and I don't see how he can really fire back.. a series of "John McCain vs John McCain" commercials if well done could be absolutely devastating

I also think the libertarians could get some traction by using the older versions of McCain's position to describe him as someone who's not conservative.. why vote for him when they have a true conservative alternative who's actually committed to the small government principles McCain is only paying lip service to now?

Or hell, the Democrats could even get some play on that, potentially depressing turnout for people who aren't excited about McCain at all.

It seems to me like there's a new flip flop every day

CNN did a little piece on it last night. some will say it's a hit job, i just say it's the truth. and Americans need to know when a candidate labels himself a straight talker, yet does a 180 in just about every issue there is. i said this months ago and got laughed off, but this election is looking more and more like a landslide due to democratic excitement/GOP disillusionment, and many more reasons of course

I'm glad the media is starting to pick up on this. It's really blatant and it's been very annoying to watch him get a free pass on all his flip flopping while they went after John Kerry so mercilessly
