Democrats want to nationalize oil

Isn't this a little too close to the way Chavez, a communist dictator, runs his country?

They used to almost shoot people for wanting to nationalize anything. It's is hard to believe anyone is talking about this. Does these high gas prices put everything on the table?

You think the oil companies in this country aren't being controlled/enabled by the government already?

They are. Which is EXACTLY why anyone with a brain would not want to nationalize the industry.

Government is greatly hampering efforts to get access to our own energy supplies. They're not being controlled from a processes standpoint they're being controlled from a where you can and cannot drill standpoint, big difference.

Also nationalizing energy exploration and production is about the fastest way to raise prices. Countries with nationalized energy industries are grossly inefficient compared with publicly traded and private companies.

Controlled, no. Supported, yes. The government should support the free market of any company or industry, including oil companies.

Big Oil is hardly a free market.

First off, if you had actually read the article, about FOUR people in the House actually support the government owning refineries. Not full nationalization, and certainly not "Democrats" in general.

Nice propagandized misleading there title there, sport

Who said anything about profit?

And as I've said dozens of times, if you don't like the direction the country is going, you can always leave and go somewhere more libertarian. Like Nigeria, perhaps.

I'm fine with the country and government and my life the way it is. I have no desire to leave and have never indicated such.

You're the only one who spews doomsday garbage about the country falling apart and shit.

^So you don't things such as the PATRIOT Act (An act that violates our civil rights.), Iraq War, declining dollar and rising food/oil costs are not hurting this country? I think you may need to take a trip to Middle America and ask them, it's breaking their backs right now. I love my country and will until the day I die but certain policies need to change right now.

You're exaggerating. Relax.

No, I don't like the Patriot Act, the War, and wish our dollar was stronger. But no, I don't think those things are "killing our country." Nor does their presence make me want to pack up and leave. Nor do I think America won't fix itself as it has for over 200 years.

Thewise1's doomsday rantings just really get on my nerves. If he was so terrified of America falling apart, he should just leave. I, on the other hand, have no doubt that good will prevail. America beat the Great Depression, the Civil War, the Red Scare, the OPEC embargo, and the British. The country is not even remotely close to falling apart as wise1 would lead you to believe with the garbage he spews on a regular basis.

^I'm just putting up problems that America is having right now. It is breaking middle America, I've seen a few news reports that have record-breaking turn out for food donations at local churches. People are quitting their jobs because it costs more to drive to and from work than what they're actually getting paid.

I mean the people this hurts are ones that work for minimum wage, or have a low-paying job like working at a super-market where they live in a small town and they have to drive everywhere because they're so spread out from everything. That's who is being hurt by this entire mess right now. Not people like you or I who live in big cities.

I agree that good will prevail in the end, but this country isn't perfect and people do have legitimate claims that our country is heading in the wrong direction.
