| McCain 527 group launches ad falsely claiming Obama is a muslim
Really disgusting.. Of course, like I said in my recent article, this is going to be par for the course for Republicans in this election cycle. Playing off bigotry and fear of those who are different, questioning someone's patriotism for policy disagreements, and so forth is old hat for the Republican party. This is the group that's doing it: National Campaign Fund - Help John McCain The guy behind it is the same one behind the Willie Horton ads | |||||||

| where did I say either or any of the ads were right?Oh yeah I didn't, nor was it implied. Dems are running ads just like this about mccain and republicans. Acting as if only republicans do this shit is ridiculous. No one said it was right, nice try though. | ||||

| You right it wasn't a Yea but the democrats did it, but I don't think anyone here has implied only the republicans do this, but I would like to see some examples of what the democrats have done like the example in this thread. | ||||

| This is all political bullshit and its coming from both parties. It's disturbing that we can't have solid discussions on issues at hand. Instead we have to bring up non issues or take real issues and morph them into some fantasy worst case scenario to play on people's fears. Lets just assume for a minute that Obama was a muslim...is that really a problem? Someone's religion shouldn't be a real factor in whether or not they're qualified to be president. | ||||

| No one said Republicans are the only one's doing this, but they're certainly the ones responsible for this ad.. and it's a complete lie. By contrast, McCain's statement about the "100 year war" doesn't matter -- even if he hadn't said what he did, he still is opposed to timetables, wants permanent American bases, and a continued American presence in Iraq for as long as it takes. I say the ad is a powerful attack on his true position -- continued war in Iraq with no end in sight -- even if you believe it takes his "100 year" remark out of context. | ||||

Your remakrs about this being a republican issue are false, this is a POLITICS issue in this nation that transcends party lines. Issues can't be talked about in an open manner or its taken out of context and blown up in people's faces. If your name is Obama and your grandfather was a muslim then you're a muslim and therefore a terrorist. If you think we will have a presence in Iraq in 100 years that some how translates into a 100 year war with no drawdown in troops so we'll scare parents into thinking their kids will have to fight and die for the war in Iraq. Thats no different than scaring people into think that Obama is some sort of muslim sympathizer. They're both exploiting fears, and misrepresenting the truth, end of story.

| No, it's not. Both are political hit jobs, sure, but one attacks McCain's position on an issue, continuing the war in Iraq with no end in sight, the other is spreading falsehoods and outright lies about Obama's background. I said this is old hat for the Republicans, and it is. They constantly play on people's fear of those different than them, questioning the patriotism of those who disagree, and so forth. It's old hat for them, it's how they won in 2002 and 2004. McCain wants to continue the war in Iraq until he deems it finished, by some unknown criteria. No timetables, permanent bases, a long term American presence with no end in sight. It's fundamentally different because there's nothing in the ad that's true about Obama being a Muslim or attending an Islamic madrassa or being raised as a Muslim.. It's 100% a lie. By contrast, the 100 year remark is the only bitch you have about that ad, the rest of it is on point. Until he tells us how long is too long to be there while Americans are being actively killed, it might as well be 100 years, because he's thus far been unwilling to commit to anything that would put some kind of time limit on the war. | ||||
