Man, unexpected. Tim Russert, now George Carlin.. don't celebrity deaths usually happen in threes?

Truly one of the greats, a comedy genius, never retired... but enough about me, George was pretty good too.

I was lucky enough to have seen him live way back in the late '80's. Truly one of the legends in the history of stand up comedy.

First host of Saturday Night Live as well!

Last I heard he has sucked live for many years - the only times he's good is when he puts it together for the HBO specials.

No doubt his shows were classics though.

The more I think about this the sadder I get. He has been one of my favorites since I was a kid listening to Hippy Dippy Weatherman.

I saw him years ago and I never laughed harder. My dad had a bunch of his albums and he would let me listen to them when I was a kid as long as we didn't tell mom! I had those 7 original swear words memorized when I was 10!

We went and saw him about 10 years ago with my wifes mom and dad. And get this, her mom is Mormon. I was making fun of her

Me: "You know the Mormon church would throw you out if they knew we were going to see Carlin."

Her: "I know he has a filthy mouth. But he doesn't swear just to swear. He's intelligent and he uses those words to get your attention and to think about what he is saying. On top of that, he is the funniest comedian in the world. I just love him."

This from a woman that spells s-h-i-t instead of saying it.

I'm going to miss seeing him. This sucks....

George Carlin Dies at 71

One of the greatest comedic minds of all time died yesterday: George Carlin at age 71 of heart failure.

He's had so much fantastic work, it's hard to choose just a few to post here, but here are some really good bits I found in no particular order:

I had the album "am/fm". For a long time I had his entire "Hair" poem memorized. Plus I remember this bit from "Hippy dippy weatherman"........

"Now if you look at the weather map, you will see we have a Canadian Low, which is not to be confused with a Mexican High.
Forecast for tonight....dark. Continuing mostly dark until tommorow when we will have scattered lightness."

Here is a link to his daughters Blog. She has a section you can leave comments in. I did.

It's funny. I just realized I have been using a Carlin skit with my kids for years. When they were young and they had to go to the bathroom I would say "Do you have to go number 1 or number 2? Or do you have to go 3? A 1 and a 2? Or maybe a 7? Three 2's and a 1!" They still tell me every now and then that they have to take a 4 "Two 1's and a 2!"
